Ripple is the catchall name for the cryptocurrency platform, the transactional protocol for which is actually XRP, in the same fashion as Ethereum is the name for the platform that facilitates trades in Ether. Like other cryptocurrencies, Ripple is built atop the idea of a distributed ledger network which requires various parties to participate in validating transactions, rather than any singular centralized authority. That facilitates transactions all over the world, and transfer fees are far cheaper than the likes of bitcoin. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XRP transfers are effectively immediate, requiring no typical confirmation time.  Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. Miners today are mining Bitcoin using ASIC chip dedicated to only mining Bitcoin, and the hash rate has shot up to peta hashes.  Being the first successful online cryptography currency, Bitcoin has inspired other alternative currencies such as Litecoin, Peercoin, Primecoin, and so on.  The cryptocurrency then took off with the innovation of the turing-complete smart contract by Ethereum which led to the development of other amazing projects such as EOS, Tron, and even crypto-collectibles such as CryptoKitties.

Jassy had then noted that having fewer managers would remove layers and flatten the organization, while increasing teammates’ ability to move fast and decreasing bureaucracy.Jamie Meyers, senior analyst at Laffer Tengler Investments, said in an emailed response to Stocktwits that the trend of thinning out middle management is happening everywhere in financials, industrials and tech. “As people are able to do more work with fewer resources (and people), we expect that trend to accelerate. Amazon Layoffs Draw Wall Street Attention Ahead Of Earnings On Thursday

Amazon on Tuesday said it would reduce its corporate workforce by about 14,000 roles, building on a recent slew of job cuts at the company.

However, 2,000 employees will stay on at GM's all-electric Factory Zero Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Center, the report noted, citing company spokesperson Kevin Kelly.The automaker will also reportedly cut 550 jobs at its Ultium Cells battery cell plant in Ohio. 850 employees are slated for temporary layoff, the report added.Meanwhile, in Tennessee, the company will temporarily lay off 700 Ultium Cell plant workers, Detroit News said. Ultium Cells is a joint venture between General Motors and LG Energy Solution that mass-produces battery cells for electric vehicles. It supports GM’s North American electric vehicle assembly capacity.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Reasons For The Layoffs</h2>The company reportedly told the Detroit News that the layoffs are in response to “slower near-term EV adoption and an evolving regulatory environment.” The move follows the expiry of a federal tax credit of $7,500 on the purchase of new EVs at the end of September, expected to drag down sales.Earlier this month, GM CEO Mary Barra said in a letter to shareholders that near-term EV adoption will be lower than planned and the company is reassessing its EV capacity and manufacturing footprint. The company incurred a special charge of $1.6 billion in the third quarter as part of the realignment and expects future charges, she noted. &nbsp;“By acting swiftly and decisively to address overcapacity, we expect to reduce EV losses in 2026 and beyond,” she said. The company also announced earlier this month that it is canceling production of its Brightdrop electric vans in Canada citing slow development in the commercial electric van market.Last week, Bloomberg also <a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/gm-reportedly-lays-off-over-200-employees-days-after-raising-2025-earnings-guidance/cLGJFcKR3tb">reported</a> that the automaker laid off over 200 salaried staff, mainly at its Tech Center in Warren, Michigan.
