Back in 2011, long before “crypto Twitter”, NFTs, or VC-backed chains existed, users of the BitcoinTalk forum came up with a new currency - not to launch a network, but to make fun of btc.... and so: The first memecoin/memecurrency was born.  On May 23, 2011, a Something Awful poster cracked, “Has anyone called them buttcoins yet?”. It was sophomoric and perfect. Within weeks the gag metastasized into Buttcoin.org, a parody blog that described a “peer to peer butt” economy while cataloging mining fiascos, exchange blowups, and MLM-adjacent “innovations”.

Buttcoin is surging in conversation as the community highlights its 15-year history as a parody of Bitcoin, with supporters framing it as a cultural staple that is finally gaining on-chain traction on Solana. Investors are actively debating its potential to flip market perceptions while emphasizing its unique lore and the recent involvement of verified project channels.

Ethereum is a global, open-source platform for decentralized applications. In other words, it is a decentralized blockchain platform that enables developers to build and deploy smart contracts and applications without central authority control. Unlike Bitcoin, which primarily functions as digital currency, Ethereum operates as a programmable global computer where developers can create any type of decentralized service.   The platform hosts over $14 billion in DeFi applications with hundreds of thousands of active users across financial protocols, NFT marketplaces, and gaming platforms. Its transition to Proof of Stake in September 2022 reduced energy consumption by over 99%, addressing environmental concerns while strengthening network security.  The network operates through thousands of independent validator nodes that process transactions and execute smart contracts on the Ethereum Virtual Machine. Smart contracts are self-executing programs written in Solidity that automatically carry out agreements when conditions are met, eliminating intermediaries like banks or brokers.   Validators stake ETH as collateral to propose and validate blocks, earning rewards for honest participation while facing penalties for malicious behavior. The EIP-1559 upgrade introduced a dynamic base fee mechanism that burns ETH with each transaction, creating deflationary pressure during high network activity when more ETH is burned than issued to validators.  Vitalik Buterin proposed Ethereum in 2013, but seven co-founders helped build it, including Gavin Wood who created Solidity and the EVM technical specification, and Joseph Lubin who founded ConsenSys. The project launched in July 2015 after raising over $18 million through crowdfunding, quickly becoming the largest blockchain developer community. Major milestones include the 2020 Beacon Chain launch, the 2021 London hard fork implementing fee burning, and the 2022 Merge to Proof of Stake.   Ether (ETH) serves multiple functions: paying transaction fees (gas), staking to secure the network and earn 3-5% annual yields, serving as collateral in DeFi protocols, and purchasing NFTs and digital assets. The asset is increasingly adopted by traditional institutions, with publicly traded companies adding ETH to corporate treasuries to generate staking yields while maintaining blockchain exposure, and in 2024, the SEC approved spot Ethereum ETFs, allowing traditional investors to gain exposure through conventional brokerage accounts.  Ethereum's roadmap focuses on dramatically increasing transaction capacity to over 100,000 per second, reducing confirmation times, and enhancing decentralization while maintaining security against future threats like quantum computing.

While Century Aluminum (<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/CENX">CENX</a>) has surged more than 200% and outpaced the broader market by a wide margin, peers like Steel Dynamics (<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/STLD">STLD</a>) and Nucor (<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/NUE">NUE</a>) posted strong gains, while Cleveland-Cliffs (<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/CLF">CLF</a>) barely moved.CENX shares have surged 245%; STLD and NUE rose 48% and 45%, respectively, outperforming the S&amp;P 500, which rose 17%, and the Nasdaq, which gained 13% over the same period. While maintaining 50% tarrifs on a large number of derivative products, many other products will be tariffed at a lower 25% rate, while some products will fall below that duty level.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Industry Players Say Tariffs Have Already Tightened Supply and Improved Order Visibility.&nbsp;</h2>&nbsp;In February, CENX said that Trump’s trade policies strengthened its commitment to reshore U.S. production of primary aluminum. Over the last year, CENX increased total U.S. primary aluminum production by almost 10% through the expansion of its smelter and plans to build a new smelter, which will double U.S. production.In its fourth-quarter report, Steel Dynamics noted that high-cost imports, driven by increased tariffs, have created a significant domestic aluminum sheet supply deficit of over 1.4 million tons, which is expected to grow along with demand.Similarly, Nucor said in its latest earnings call that it expects the full impact of tariffs and recent trade determinations to lower levels of imported steel in 2026, which is why NUE entered the year with historically strong backlogs, up nearly 40% year-over-year in the steel mills segment and 15% in steel products.Cleveland-Cliffs also reported that its robust order book is the “best confirmation” that the business environment has already begun to improve, and that the 50% tariffs are a leading driver of this impact.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">STLD, CLF, NUE, CENX: How Have Retail Traders Reacted?</h2>&nbsp;On Stocktwits, retail sentiment toward Century Aluminum mostly remained in the ‘bullish’ range for the year, while message volumes jumped to ‘extremely high’ from ‘low’.
