Ripple is the catchall name for the cryptocurrency platform, the transactional protocol for which is actually XRP, in the same fashion as Ethereum is the name for the platform that facilitates trades in Ether. Like other cryptocurrencies, Ripple is built atop the idea of a distributed ledger network which requires various parties to participate in validating transactions, rather than any singular centralized authority. That facilitates transactions all over the world, and transfer fees are far cheaper than the likes of bitcoin. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XRP transfers are effectively immediate, requiring no typical confirmation time.  Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. Delta Air Lines CEO Expects Most US Carriers To Bleed In 2025: Report

Spirit Aviation (FLYY) was on the retail traders’ radar on Wednesday after the low-cost airline reportedly revealed plans for further job cuts and a reduction in flight schedule in November to cut costs, weeks after declaring its second bankruptcy in less than a year.According to a CNBC report, Spirit CEO Dave Davis wrote to employees in a memo that the company will see a 25% cut in capacity, compared to 2024, as it “optimizes” its network to focus on the “strongest markets.”The <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/09/17/spirit-ceo-flight-cuts.html">report</a> further stated the cuts were similar in scale to the ones made after Spirit emerged from its first bankruptcy in March through June. The ultra-low-cost carrier is also in talks with vendors and aircraft lessors and is evaluating its fleet size to reduce its scale and gain operational efficiencies.“These evaluations will inevitably affect the size of our teams as we become a more efficient airline,” Davis reportedly said in the note. “Unfortunately, these are the tough calls we must make to emerge stronger. Frontier Airlines (ULCC) CEO Barry Biffle reportedly responded to United Airlines (UAL) Chief Executive Scott Kirby's comments&nbsp;from last week about the deep discount model in the U.S. being dead, saying that there was a flight oversupply issue in the country.According to a CNBC report, Biffle fired back at Kirby, saying, “That’s cute,” during the Skift Global Forum on Wednesday. He added, “If he’s good at math, he would understand that we have a [flight] oversupply issue in the United States.”Retail sentiment on <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/UAL">United Airlines</a> remained unchanged in the ‘bullish’ territory, with message volumes at ‘normal’ levels, according to data from Stocktwits.The report added that at an airline conference in Long Beach, California, last week, Kirby stated that he believed Spirit Airlines, the largest U.S. discount airline, would go out of business. In August, Spirit filed for its second bankruptcy in less than a year.The report further stated that when Kirby was asked about&nbsp;the rationale for his comment on Spirit shutting down, he said, “Because I’m good at math.”According to the report, Kirby remarked that if Biffle aims to make Frontier the “largest” U.S. discount airline, he may end up as “last man standing on a sinking ship.”The report noted that Biffle defended Frontier’s lower unit costs, which were $7.50 per available seat mile, excluding fuel, compared with far larger United’s $12.36 in the second quarter. It believes the overlap would increase to 40% by the December quarter following Frontier's addition of new routes.Late last month, Frontier revealed plans to launch 20 routes this winter, many of them in major Spirit markets like its base at Fort Lauderdale International Airport in Florida.
