The company has always been quick to identify opportunities, and investors have promptly welcomed each of its strategic moves.&nbsp;Despite a steep descent seen since November,&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/IREN">IREN’s stock</a> is still up 261% year-to-date (YTD).&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Strategic Shifts Paying Off</h2>Sydney, Australia-based IREN, founded in 2018 by siblings Daniel and Will Roberts, started as a provider of solar services for commercial and residential use. The company used clean energy to fuel a booming Bitcoin mining business that benefited from a strong rally in the apex crypto that began in late 2022.&nbsp;Then, as data centers powering energy-hungry artificial intelligence (AI) workloads surged in popularity, IREN pivoted decisively, seizing the opportunity with both hands. In a statement released on March 31, the company said it was pausing all Bitcoin mining expansion and shifting its focus. Announcing the shift, CEO Daniel Roberts said:<blockquote>“As we near completion of our 50 EH/s mining expansion, our focus is shifting to the next phase of growth and delivering scalable infrastructure for AI and HPC through our AI Cloud Services and AI Data Center businesses.”</blockquote>Since IREN announced the pivot, the stock has gained a whopping 1,160% from its Nov. 5 intraday peak of $76.87. By the time, IREN had landed a&nbsp;massive deal with Microsoft, valued at $9.7 billion over five years, providing the software giant with access to Nvidia’s GB300 GPUs. Simultaneously, the company also struck an agreement with Dell to acquire the GPUs and ancillary equipment for about $5.8 billion.&nbsp;Following the deal, Macquarie analyst Paul Golding said the development further accelerates IREN’s diversification into AI Cloud:<blockquote>“The move signals IREN's vertically integrated AI Cloud platform being a formidable offering in the market. At least one research firm does not think likewise. In a report released on Monday, B. Riley analysts reiterated a ‘Buy’ rating and a $74 price target, citing their view that the company is set to outperform fellow neoclouds once AI sentiment improves, Coindesk reported.<h2 class="st-heading-2">How Neoclouds Fared This Year</h2>Since Nov. 5, IREN’s stock has underperformed its peers, including CoreWeave (CRWV), Applied Digital (APLD), and Nebius Group (NBIS), but it still towers over the rest, considering the YTD returns.<img src="https://news.stocktwits-cdn.com/IREN_vs_Neoclouds_YTD_returns_png_e7671318c0.webp" alt="IREN vs Neoclouds YTD returns.png">Source: KoyfinApart from the publicly listed stock, other dominant players in the space are London-based Civo, Crusoe Cloud, Lambda, and Vultr.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Fundamental Challenges</h2>Calling Neocloud’s business model “bare-metal-as-a-service” (BMaaS), consultancy firm McKinsey&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.mckinsey.com/capabilities/tech-and-ai/our-insights/the-evolution-of-neoclouds-and-their-next-moves">said</a> their economics are fragile. With this model, gross margins are typically around 55%-65% before depreciation, depending on utilization and pricing. The firm said:”<blockquote>“If there is a small decrease in GPU rental prices, or if utilization slips below 80 percent, returns will flatline. On Stocktwits, retail sentiment around the apex cryptocurrency trended in ‘bullish’ territory over the past day as chatter dipped to ‘normal’ from ‘high’ levels.&nbsp;Despite the recovery, Bitcoin’s price is still nearly 27% below its all-time high of over $126,000 seen in October, earlier this year.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Ethereum Price Prediction</h2>In addition to Bitcoin, BTIG analysts predicted that Ethereum’s (ETH) price could climb back up to $3,400 after the leading altcoin recovered to the $3,000 mark over Thanksgiving.&nbsp;On Friday,&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/coins/ethereum">Ethereum’s price</a> edged 0.5% higher over the past 24 hours. On Stocktwits, retail sentiment around ETH trended in the ‘bearish’ zone over the past day.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Crypto Mining Stocks Rebound&nbsp;</h2>BTIG also reportedly noted that Cipher Mining (CIFR) and Terawulf (WULF) are “showing impressive performance during the crypto pullback.”&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/CIFR">Cipher Mining’s stock</a> gained more than 7% in morning trade on Friday, while&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/WULF">Terawulf’s stock</a> rose more than 5.5%. The company said the expansion happened ahead of schedule and contributed to its record production.<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/HIVE">HIVE’s stock</a> jumped as much as 7% in pre-market trade. However, retail sentiment on Stocktwits dipped to ‘extremely bearish’ from ‘bearish’ over the past day.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Highest Bitcoin Production In 2025</h2>Hive produced 289 Bitcoin in October, which is an 8% increase from last month and a 147% year-over-year rise, marking a new high for 2025. The company said its production growth of 8%, outpaced Bitcoin network difficulty, which increased by 3%.Hive added that its strong mining performance is what is allowing the company to continue its expansion into Tier III+ artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) data centers across Canada. An initiative that the company calls the “Great Transformation.”“Our teams are executing on multiple fronts — from finalizing Phase 3 in Paraguay to accelerating our AI data-center buildout in Canada,” said Hive President &amp; CEO, Aydin Kilic. “We’ve built a profitable GPU-driven HPC revenue stream over the past three years, and the momentum continues as we scale both sides of our business: Bitcoin mining and AI compute.”&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Operational Hashrate And Earnings Outlook</h2>Later this week, Hive expects to reach approximately 25 EH/s of operational hashrate, once the intermittent curtailment at its Canadian facilities gets wrapped up. The miner is expected to report earning later this week on November 14. Shares of Bitfarms (BITF) surged in Friday morning trade after the company converted its $300 million private debt facility with Macquarie into a project-specific financing for its Panther Creek, Pennsylvania, data center campus.&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="http://stockwits.com/symbol/BITF">BITF’s stock</a> surged as much as 15%, with retail sentiment on Stocktwits rising to ‘extremely bullish’ from ‘bullish’ territory amid ‘high’ levels of chatter over the past day.&nbsp;“We intend to use this drawdown of an additional $50 million to fund civil works and substation construction at Panther Creek, which are on track to begin in Q4 2025,” said CEO Ben Gagon. Bitfarms Stock Surges After Converting Macquarie Debt To $300M Project Financing 

Bitfarms said the project-specific financing with Macquarie will be used to purchase long-lead equipment, begin civil construction, and build a substation for its Panther Creek data center campus.

The Fund provides exposure to companies involved in bitcoin mining operations, and doesn’t invest directly in bitcoin. It invests at least 80% of its net assets in securities of companies that derive at least 50% of their revenue or profits from bitcoin mining operations or from providing specialized chips, hardware and software or other services to companies engaged in bitcoin mining.
