At the time of writing, WTI crude oil prices remained above $100 a barrel, and Brent crude oil was trading around $106.78 a barrel.<h2 class="st-heading-2">All Eyes On Q1 Earnings&nbsp;</h2>For the first quarter (Q1) of 2026, Wall Street analysts expect Transocean to post a 14% growth in revenue, pegged at $1.03 billion. The company is also expected to post an earnings per share of $0.08 compared to a loss of $0.07 in the comparable period of 2025, according to data from Fiscal.ai.Earlier in April, Morgan Stanley raised the price target on Transocean to $7 from $5 and kept an ‘Equal Weight’ rating on the shares, citing benefits from higher oil prices beyond the war that would likely be supportive of increased upstream capital spending.Meanwhile, Susquehanna also raised the price target on the company to $8 from $7.50 and kept a ‘Positive’ rating on the shares as part of a Q1 preview. The Iran conflict has been a "significant positive catalyst" for commodity prices and oil and gas stocks, the analyst said, as per TheFly, adding that medium- and long-term effects of the Iran war are now more positive for the sector as supply conditions tighten.<h2 class="st-heading-2">What’s Working For RIG?</h2>Earlier in April, Transocean announced new contracts and extensions for ultra-deepwater drillships in Norway and Brazil, boosting its total backlog to about $1.6 billion.The Swiss company’s acquisition of Houston-based Valaris Ltd. (VAL) in a deal valued at about $5.8 billion will result in the creation of a premier offshore driller with a 73-rig fleet, including 33 ultra-deepwater drillships, nine semisubmersibles and 31 modern jackups. Expected to close in the second half of 2026, the acquisition is expected to result in over $200 million of cost synergies, accelerated debt reduction, enhanced financial flexibility, and increased, diversified exposure to a multi-year drilling upcycle for the company.<h2 class="st-heading-2">RIG’s Valuation Concerns</h2>However, RIG trades at a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 30.2x, well above XOM’s 12.4x and CVX’s 12.9x multiples. Sky Quarry acquired Foreland Refining Corp. in 2022, which operates the Eagle Springs refinery, which processes crude oil into products such as diesel, naphtha, vacuum gas oil, and asphalt. The facility serves the regional energy market and supports Nevada’s mining industry, with a daily production capacity of 4,500 to 5,000 barrels.Higher oil prices, driven by the ongoing war in Iran and the subsequent blockage of the Strait of Hormuz, have greatly benefited the company. At the time of writing, Brent crude oil prices are trading above $111 per barrel.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Sky Quarry Looks To Increase Production</h2>Sky Quarry, which has a market capitalization of about $22.4 million, has also recently sought partners via Request for Proposals (RFPs) to accelerate the development and commercialization of its PR Spring oil sands project in Utah.The fully permitted facility, spread across about 5,900 acres, is about an 180-million-barrel resource that already has over $50 million in investments. <ul class="summary-bullets"><li>The veteran investor believes the physical markets are on the right track.&nbsp;</li><li>When paper oil prices catch up to physical prices, the repricing will be violent, according to Noble.&nbsp;</li><li>Meanwhile, oil prices have been swinging wildly amid ongoing geopolitical uncertainty.</li></ul>As markets grapple with uncertainty about the outcome of the war in Iran and its impact on global energy prices, a former associate of legendary investor Peter Lynch is betting on energy stocks.“Energy stocks remain the most asymmetric trade in this market,” said George Noble, a hedge fund veteran and former Fidelity fund manager, in a <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/gnoble79/status/2046603397533511746">post</a> on X on late Tuesday.The investor highlighted the pricing difference between physical oil markets (spot oil, tanker bookings, actual delivery) and paper markets (futures contracts, options, financial instruments), saying that while the former was pricing in a war, the latter was pricing in a peace deal. “One of them is WRONG,” Noble said.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Noble Backs This Indicator</h2>The veteran investor believes the physical markets are on the right track. To back his claim, Noble pointed out that 230 loaded oil tankers were stuck in the Persian Gulf amid the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, where traffic had dropped by over 90%.He noted that normally 15 to 20 million barrels per day flowed through the critical waterway, but at present, alternatives via Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline can only handle about 9 million barrels per day, creating a massive gap with no real workaround.“You cannot close a gap that large with infrastructure that doesn't exist,” he said. “You cannot load 15 million barrels per day onto trucks. There is no land bridge for hydrocarbons. The pipelines are maxed. The tankers are parked,” he added.Noble also said that two separate battles were unfolding now — one the global supply chain has already adapted to, and another it simply can’t. Yet paper oil markets were trading as if that divide didn’t exist, he said.Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that the U.S. was extending a ceasefire with Iran, although the blockage of Iranian ports would continue.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Wild Market Swings</h2>Oil prices have been swinging sharply, spiking on any hints of escalation in tensions between the U.S. and Iran, while pulling back on signs of renewed negotiations or ceasefire announcements.
