<ul class="summary-bullets"><li>Core CPI, which excludes food and energy, rose 0.2% in January, below Wall Street expectations.</li><li>Soaring energy costs drove the rise in headline inflation, with the energy index rising 10.9% in March.</li><li>The gasoline index surged 21.2% during the month, contributing to a three-quarter increase in the headline prices, the BLS report stated.</li></ul><p>U.S. consumer prices rose in line with expectations in March in the first inflation print since the beginning of the Iran war, according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) report released on Friday.</p><p>According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), on a seasonally adjusted basis, CPI rose 0.9% in March, after rising 0.3% in February.</p><p>This puts the annual rate at 3.3% before the seasonal adjustment.</p><p>Core CPI, which excludes food and energy, rose&nbsp;0.2% in March, slightly below the Dow Jones estimate, according to&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.marketwatch.com/economy-politics/calendar">MarketWatch</a> data.</p><p>On an annual basis, core CPI stood at 2.6%, below Wall Street expectations. However, medical care, personal care, and user car prices declined during the month, the report stated.</p><p>Meanwhile, U.S. equities were mixed in Friday morning’s trade. At the time of writing, the&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/SPY">SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF</a> (SPY), which tracks the S&amp;P 500 index, gained 0.12%; the&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/QQQ">Invesco QQQ Trust ETF</a> (QQQ) rose 0.27%; and the&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/DIA">SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF Trust</a> (DIA) fell 0.24%. CPI Report: First Inflation Print Since Beginning Of Iran War Shows Consumer Prices Rise In Line With Expectations

Consumer price index (CPI) rose 0.9% in March on a seasonally adjusted basis, after rising 0.3% in February.

<ul class="summary-bullets"><li>Consumer spending, adjusted for inflation, increased 0.1% in February after stagnating in January, outpacing the 0.1% decrease in personal income during the month.</li><li>In absolute terms, personal income decreased $18.2 billion in February, while disposable personal income fell $18.3 billion.</li><li>Personal consumption expenditures increased $103.2 billion, while personal outlays increased $106.5 billion during the month.</li></ul><p>The Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) Index, which is the Federal Reserve’s preferred gauge of inflation,&nbsp;advanced 2.8% in February on an annualized basis.</p><p>The Commerce Department data showed that core PCE, which excludes food and energy,&nbsp;rose 3% on an annualized basis in February, up&nbsp;0.4% on a monthly basis.</p><p>Both PCE and core PCE were in line with analyst forecasts, according to a Dow Jones estimate as&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.marketwatch.com/economy-politics/calendar">cited</a> by MarketWatch. Personal consumption expenditures increased $103.2 billion, while personal outlays increased $106.5 billion during the month.</p><p>Personal savings stood at $931.5 billion in February, while the personal saving rate was 4%.</p><h2 class="st-heading-2">Jobless Claims Rise</h2><p>Meanwhile, jobless claims rose in the week ended April 4 to 219,000 from 203,000 in the prior week, higher than a Dow Jones estimate of 210,000, as&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.marketwatch.com/economy-politics/calendar">cited</a> by MarketWatch.</p><p>The four-week moving average for jobless claims, which smooths weekly volatility, rose by 1,500 to 209,500.</p><p>Continuing claims, which refer to the number of people claiming unemployment benefits beyond the first week, hovered in the 1.79 million range for the week ending March 28, decreasing by 38,000 over the previous week.</p><p>Meanwhile, U.S. equities declined in Thursday’s pre-market trade. And they (Cuba) want to make a deal,” he told Politico.</p><h2 class="st-heading-2">Market Reaction</h2><p>Meanwhile, President Trump’s military operations in Iran have sent oil prices soaring, while simultaneously weighing down on investor sentiments in the stock markets.</p><p>U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures maturing in April 2026 jumped on Thursday, closing above the $80-per-barrel mark for the first time since 2024.</p><p>U.S. stock markets closed in red on Thursday after the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined nearly 800 points. The <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/DIA">SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF Trust </a>(DIA) closed down 1.62%, and was 0.02% lower in extended trading hours. Trump Says After Iran, US May Turn Its Attention To Cuba: Report 

According to a report from CNBC, Trump said at the White House that the U.S. wants to “fix” the crisis in Cuba after the Iranian military operations are completed.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average tumbled over 800 points at the time of writing, while the S&amp;P 500 index fell 0.9%.</p><p>Crude oil prices soared on Thursday after Iran said it had struck an oil tanker with a missile in the northern parts of the Persian Gulf. According to a state media&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.tasnimnews.ir/en/news/2026/03/05/3532070/irgc-hits-american-oil-tanker-in-persian-gulf">report</a>, the tanker struck by the IRGC Navy was on fire at the time of writing.</p><p>U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures maturing in April soared nearly 6% on Thursday, rising to $79.15 per barrel, compared to the previous closing price of $74.66. Brent crude futures maturing in May gained 4.4%, rising to $85.02 per barrel.</p><p>"The U.S. International Development Finance Corporation would need to have some creative operational changes, including the ability to operate in the Middle East, a shift from project-based financing to shipping, and would need a significant acceleration in approvals from the typical six-to-nine month process," said Michelle Gibley, director of international equity research and strategy, Schwab Center for Financial Research.</p><p>Gibley added that despite President Donald Trump's extension of risk insurance, concerns about crew safety could limit the level of risk associated with shipping oil through the Strait of Hormuz.</p><p>The CNN Fear and Greed Index&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://edition.cnn.com/markets/fear-and-greed">was</a> hovering in the ‘Fear’ zone at 34.</p><h2 class="st-heading-2">Tehran Hit By A Missile Attack</h2><p>According to a Reuters&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.reuters.com/world/iran-live-war-widens-iran-says-us-will-bitterly-regret-sinking-ship-2026-03-05/">report</a> citing Iran’s ISNA news agency, the country’s capital city, Tehran, experienced a missile attack on Thursday. The S&amp;P 500 and Nasdaq Composite indexes were both down 1.33% at the time of writing.</p><p>“Risk-off sentiment intensified as the Middle East conflict entered its fourth day with no end in sight.&nbsp; Stocks fell sharply with long-duration names hit hardest,” The Future Fund’s Gary Black said in a&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/garyblack00/status/2028782777424925113">post</a> on X on Tuesday.</p><h2 class="st-heading-2">Iran Strikes 12 Countries In Middle East</h2><p>Ansari stated at a press conference on Tuesday that Iran has struck a dozen countries in the Middle East, with Qatar being one of them, according to a&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/3/3/qatar-says-iran-didnt-warn-of-missile-attacks-no-comms-with-tehran">report</a> by Al Jazeera.</p><p>He added that Iran did not notify Doha about the incoming missile strikes, while stating that the Iranian targets were not limited to military sites but included all Qatari territory.</p><p>“There were attempts to attack Hamad International Airport. They were all thwarted. … The missiles were downed by our defensive measures, and none of them reached the airport,” Ansari added, according to the report.</p><h2 class="st-heading-2">Iran Vows To Hit Economic Hubs In Middle East If Attacks Continue</h2><p>Meanwhile, Iran has reportedly vowed to strike all economic hubs in the Middle East if the joint attacks by the United States and Israel continue, as it looks to draw in other countries in the region to pressure the U.S. and Israel to back off.</p><p>The warning was issued by Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps General Ebrahim Jabbari, according to a&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.aljazeera.com/news/liveblog/2026/3/3/iran-live-news-israel-bombs-tehran-beirut-trump-says-war-to-last-4-weeks">report</a> by Al Jazeera.</p><p>“We are saying to the enemy that if it decides to hit our main centres, we will hit all economic centres in the region,” Jabbari said.</p><h2 class="st-heading-2">US Embassy In Saudi Arabia Issues Warning</h2><p>The U.S. Embassy in Saudi Arabia issued a warning about an imminent threat of missile and drone attacks at the consulate in Dhahran.</p><p>“Do not go outside.
