You cannot grow output at that pace with sharply slower labor-force growth unless output per worker is increasing,” he added.Amid the slump in tech stocks, the economist said that markets are currently rotating, not collapsing. He added that mega-cap AI stocks could deliver returns between 0% to 10% this year, underperforming the rest of the market, which he believes could gain between 10% to 15%.“That rotation is underway. They said this would likely occur once it becomes clear that supply disruptions caused by the Iran conflict are temporary, critical oil infrastructure remains intact, and the need for continued military action fades.“In this scenario, markets may be volatile over the coming weeks but would likely thereafter start to refocus on positive global economic fundamentals. Economists are not immune to the frailties of human nature. Once policymakers reveal their economic forecast, they can become prisoners of their own words,” he said.The Fed Chair nominee added that Fed leaders should skip opportunities to share their latest musings, noting that rhetorically talking about the latest data release is a common problem and counterproductive.He said he sees little value in the Fed’s data-dependent approach, arguing that relying on backward-looking data, which is subject to significant revision, reflects false precision and analytical complacency.Meanwhile, U.S. equities were mixed in Thursday’s pre-market trade.
