Ripple is the catchall name for the cryptocurrency platform, the transactional protocol for which is actually XRP, in the same fashion as Ethereum is the name for the platform that facilitates trades in Ether. Like other cryptocurrencies, Ripple is built atop the idea of a distributed ledger network which requires various parties to participate in validating transactions, rather than any singular centralized authority. That facilitates transactions all over the world, and transfer fees are far cheaper than the likes of bitcoin. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XRP transfers are effectively immediate, requiring no typical confirmation time.  Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. The 52-week average 30-year FRM rate stood at 6.67%, according to the firm.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Home Prices Surge</h2>Data from Redfin showed that home prices surged in the four weeks ending November 16, registering the biggest gain in seven months despite slow demand.The firm stated in its latest report that the median home sale price rose 2.3% during this period, driven by a decline in total inventory.“Still, it’s important to note that home prices are growing slower than wages and inflation, meaning homebuying is becoming slightly more affordable,” the firm added.<h2 class="st-heading-2">High-End Growth Remains Strong</h2>The NAR report showed that sales in the high-end of the U.S. housing market registered strong year-over-year growth. As homebuyers climbed the price ladder, the sales growth rose, too.Sales of homes costing up to $100,000 declined 2.8% YoY in September. Growth kicked in at the $100,000 to $250,000 price range, growing at 0.9%. Sales of homes costing more than $1 million grew the fastest, at 16.4%.Meanwhile, U.S. equities were down in Thursday’s midday trade. Existing Home Sales Rise In October As Buyers Take Advantage Of Lower Mortgage Rates

BLS Delayed September Jobs Report Shows Stronger Hiring, But Unemployment Rate Climbs To 4-Year High

The household survey data is not able to be retroactively collected,” BLS said in an update on its website.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Other Reports</h2>The BLS also stated that it had canceled the September Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey reports. It added that it will release the September data along with the October report on December 9, coinciding with the Federal Open Market Committee’s (FOMC) December meeting.The agency also said it would release the November jobs report on December 16, which means the Federal Reserve will not have access to this data before the FOMC’s December meeting.<h2 class="st-heading-2">What White House Said</h2>This comes days after the White House stated that the October jobs report would be released without the unemployment rate.“The household survey wasn’t conducted in October, so we’re going to get half the employment report. We’ll get the jobs part, but we won’t get the unemployment rate, and that’ll just be for one month,” National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.foxnews.com/video/6385058820112">said</a> on Fox News last week.Meanwhile, U.S. equities were up in Wednesday’s midday trade. BLS Cancels October Jobs Report Days After White House Said It Would Be Released Without Unemployment Rate

Apart from 401(k)s, the new limit also applies to 403(b)s, governmental 457 plans, as well as the federal Thrift Savings Plan.The IRS also noted that the limit for those aged 50 and above will be $32,500 per year from 2026.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Catch-Up Contribution Limits</h2>The catch-up contribution limit that generally applies for employees aged 50 and over who participate in most 401(k), 403(b), governmental 457 plans, and the federal government’s Thrift Savings Plan has been increased to $8,000, up from $7,500 for 2025.The agency also noted that under a change made in SECURE 2.0, a higher catch-up contribution limit applies for employees aged 60, 61, 62, and 63 who participate in these plans.For 2026, this higher catch-up contribution limit remains $11,250 instead of the $8,000 noted above.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Roth IRA Contribution Limits</h2>Similarly, the IRS also announced an increase in Roth IRA contribution limits for 2026 to $7,500, up from $7,500 in 2025.The Roth IRA catch-up contribution limit for investors age 50 and older has been increased to $1,100, from $1,000 in 2025.&nbsp;Meanwhile, U.S. equities declined in Thursday’s midday trade. However, he added that focusing only on inflation is not sufficient.“The focus on prices is understandable. The inflationary surge of 2021-22 was a major shock that made the cost of staples, such as groceries and utilities, a source of pain,” he said.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Compelling Battle Cry</h2>El-Erian added that focusing on inflation makes for a “compelling battle cry” for politicians.&nbsp;However, many voters were frustrated&nbsp;that there was a disconnect between news of inflation coming down and the fact that it was the rate of inflation that had slowed, not the prices of goods and services.“It is income that is now under greater pressure, exposing the fragile financial foundation of too many households,” the economist added.Last week, Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago President Austan Goolsbee expressed concerns about core services inflation edging up, stating that this is a more persistent form of inflation. Service prices, excluding energy services, rose 3.5% for the year through September, according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.Overall, the annual inflation rate&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/us-consumer-inflation-september-cpi-report/cLGJnYpR3sC">stood at 3%</a> in September.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Income Anxiety</h2>El-Erian explained that income anxiety is also driven by the impact of artificial intelligence on the workforce, as well as the increase in layoffs.&nbsp;According to&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.challengergray.com/blog/october-challenger-report-153074-job-cuts-on-cost-cutting-ai/">data</a> from Challenger, Gray &amp; Christmas, U.S.-based employers trimmed more than 153,000 jobs in October on account of artificial intelligence and cost-cutting.El-Erian added that the income side of the affordability equation will also need to be addressed, alongside inflation. “Until this happens, affordability will be even more of a central issue. El-Erian Reportedly Says Affordability Debate Ignores A Key Factor – Rising Income Anxiety

Notably, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased 9.1% for the 12 months ended June 2022, which was the largest rise in 40 years, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).<h2 class="st-heading-2">Second Lowest In History</h2>The consumer sentiment for November is now the second-lowest in history, according to data from the University of Michigan. According to a Dow Jones estimate&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.marketwatch.com/economy-politics/calendar">compiled</a> by MarketWatch, consumer sentiment was expected to be at 53 during the month.“With the federal government shutdown dragging on for over a month, consumers are now expressing worries about potential negative consequences for the economy,” said survey Director Joanne Hsu.The U.S. government shutdown is now in its 38th day.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Other Measures Also Decline</h2>Other measures in the survey also showed a decline in November. The current conditions index fell to 52.3, down 11% from October, while the consumer expectations reading declined to 49, down 2.6%.From the year-ago period, both the readings are down 18% and 36%, respectively.“This month’s decline in sentiment was widespread throughout the population, seen across age, income, and political affiliation,” Hsu added.However, the sentiment among consumers with the largest stock holdings showed an improvement of 11%, according to the survey.Meanwhile, U.S. equities declined in Friday morning’s trade. US Consumer Sentiment Hits Lowest Level Since 2022 Amid Growing Concerns About Shutdown's Impact On Economy

Krugman criticized the Trump administration’s tariff policy for hurting 90 years of efforts that went into U.S. trade liberalization and violating international agreements.<blockquote>“Trump’s signature economic policy may soon melt down into a puddle of incompetence and humiliation.”— Paul Krugman, economist</blockquote>The 2008 Nobel Prize for Economics winner said that if this were to happen, he would celebrate the end of an “extraordinarily bad policy” as well as the Supreme Court showing willingness to put a check on President Trump’s “authoritarian behavior.”<h2 class="st-heading-2">Executive Fiat</h2>Krugman also criticized President Trump for invoking the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to impose tariffs on countries worldwide, many of which are close U.S. allies.“It was clearly not intended to bestow upon the president the right to do whatever he wants,” he said.The Trump administration declared a national emergency while announcing the “Liberation Day” tariffs on April 2, citing the “large and persistent” trade deficit.Krugman said that despite the Trump administration’s reasoning for declaring the emergency, the U.S. Court of International Trade did not find it to be a reasonable argument.<h2 class="st-heading-2">The Path Forward</h2>Krugman, however, noted that even if the Supreme Court&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/trump-tariffs-case-supreme-court/cL2q8jQREG6">rules against</a> the Trump administration’s tariff policy, it would create “enormous uncertainty.”“For Trump won’t give up.
