The food index rose 0.2% during the month.Indexes that increased over the month include shelter, airline fares, recreation, household furnishings and operations, and apparel, according to BLS data. The indexes for motor vehicle insurance, used cars and trucks, and communication were among the few major indexes to decline in September.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Treasury Yields Edge Lower</h2>Following the release of CPI data, the benchmark 10-year Treasury yield fell one basis point to 3.982%, while the two-year Treasury yield fell three basis points to 3.457%.Meanwhile, U.S. equities gained in Friday’s pre-market trade. CPI Report: Annual Inflation Rate Comes In Lower Than Expected At 3% In September

A year ago, the 30-year FRM averaged 7%, according to the government-sponsored enterprise.“At the start of 2025, the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage surpassed 7%, while today it hovers nearly a full percentage point lower. This dynamic has kept refinancings high, accounting for more than half of all mortgage activity for the sixth consecutive week,” Freddie Mac stated in its latest report.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Previously Owned Home Sales Rise</h2>According to a CNBC&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/10/23/lower-mortgage-rates-push-home-sales-higher-in-september.html">report</a> citing data from the National Association of Realtors, sales of previously owned homes rose to a seven-month high, rising 1.5% in September from August, to a seasonally adjusted annualized rate of 4.06 million units.<blockquote>“As anticipated, falling mortgage rates are lifting home sales. As part of the framework, the Argentinian central bank would be able to exchange pesos for U.S. dollars with the Treasury Department.This would help Argentina shore up liquidity as well as the value of the Argentine peso, which has declined nearly 4% since President Javier Milei’s La Libertad Avanza party suffered a defeat in provincial elections in Buenos Aires in September.However, the report adds that Bessent did not respond to another question from Warren on the Treasury Department’s plans to coordinate with private sector lenders to extend a $20 billion loan to Argentina, on top of the $20 billion currency swap agreement.Meanwhile, U.S. equities declined in Wednesday’s opening trade. Speaking during an interview with CNBC, Miran stated that the recent flare-up in trade tensions with China has increased uncertainty about the economic growth of the U.S.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent reportedly stated that while the U.S. does not want to decouple from China, it has the capability to respond with “things that are more powerful” than the Chinese government’s rare earth export controls.Speaking during an&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nUaMeg3IUc">interview</a> with CNBC, Bessent framed the ongoing U.S.-China trade tensions as a “China versus the world” issue. “This is something that they were clearly planning all along. I think that things can de-escalate, we don’t want to have to escalate,” said Bessent.The Treasury Secretary added that he will be meeting with European allies, Australia, Canada, India, and Asian democracies. “We’re going to have a fulsome group response to this, because bureaucrats in China cannot manage the supply chain or the manufacturing process for the rest of the world,” he said.Elaborating on what the “fulsome” response would be like, Bessent said the U.S. has lots of levers it can pull for products that China needs that could be “equally damaging” for the latter. “They’re a command and control economy, but they are neither going to command, nor control us,” Bessent added.The Treasury Secretary maintained that the U.S. does not want to decouple from China, while adding that the Trump administration won’t negotiate with China “because the stock market is going down.”Meanwhile, U.S. equities rose in Wednesday’s opening trade.
