BYD tightened its hold on China’s electric vehicle market in September, outpacing Tesla as local automakers pulled further ahead.The Warren Buffett–backed company sold about 347,000 new energy vehicles during the month, according to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), keeping its spot at the top of the rankings even with a slight dip from last year’s levels, CnEVPost&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://cnevpost.com/2025/10/15/automakers-share-china-nev-market-sept-2025/">reported</a>.BYD’s sales were down 10.2% from last September but up 12% from August, giving it a 26.7% market share, well ahead of every other automaker in the country.&nbsp;Tesla, meanwhile, ranked fifth with 71,525 vehicles sold, a 0.9% drop from a year earlier but a 25% rebound from July. BYD Reports 5.5% Sales Decline In September

In the three months through the end of September, BYD sold over 1.1 million vehicles, including both battery electric and plug-in hybrids.

Ford Motor Co. (F) CEO Jim Farley reportedly stated on Wednesday that buyers in the U.S. prefer a $30,000 electric vehicle over utility vehicles, which cost $75,000 but offer a larger battery.In an interview&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/ford-ceo-says-customers-are-not-interested-in-75000-evs-110019792.html">with</a> Yahoo Finance, Farley added that Ford does not want to live under the shadow of Tesla Inc. (TSLA), after having played the “No. 2” role to the latter for three years.“We've learned ... people are not willing to pay [a] $30,000 premium for that big battery on a [$50,000], $60,000 utility. But they're willing to buy a $30,000 EV if they save $2,000 a year compared to gas costs,” said Farley in the interview.<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/F">Ford’s shares</a> were down 0.05% in Wednesday’s premarket trade.
