Ripple is the catchall name for the cryptocurrency platform, the transactional protocol for which is actually XRP, in the same fashion as Ethereum is the name for the platform that facilitates trades in Ether. Like other cryptocurrencies, Ripple is built atop the idea of a distributed ledger network which requires various parties to participate in validating transactions, rather than any singular centralized authority. That facilitates transactions all over the world, and transfer fees are far cheaper than the likes of bitcoin. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XRP transfers are effectively immediate, requiring no typical confirmation time.  Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. Monday’s rally was sparked by a few teasers released by the company over the past few days.

(NIO) shares climbed over 2% in the early premarket trading on Wednesday after the Chinese electric-vehicle (EV) maker reported record monthly and quarterly deliveries.On Stocktwits,&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/NIO">Nio’s stock</a> was among the top five trending equity tickers as of early Wednesday. That said, sentiment toward the stock was ‘neutral’ (51/100) early Wednesday, although improving from the ‘bearish’ mood seen the day before. Morgan Stanley on Thursday raised its price target on XPeng (XPEV) to $28 from $26 while keeping an ‘Overweight’ rating on the shares.The new price target implies a 37% upside to the stock’s closing price on Wednesday.Constant competition and year-to-date stock outperformance "may aggravate near-term volatility," Morgan Stanley noted. However, the firm stays constructive on XPeng's model pipeline and AI-related initiatives.Morgan Stanley views the G7, powered by the in-house developed AI Turing chip, which XPeng launched at a pre-sale price of RMB235,800 ($32,781), as "just the first step in pioneering a breakthrough," the analyst said.XPeng unveiled the G7, an all-electric mid-size SUV, on Wednesday. The company plans to start delivering the vehicle in the third quarter. XPeng Gets A Price Target Hike From Morgan Stanley, Retail Wonders What Happened To Short Sellers

Auto parts suppliers across the world have raised alarm bells that China’s curb on rare earth exports is threatening to cripple production."Immediate and decisive action is needed to prevent widespread disruption and economic fallout across the vehicle supplier sector," U.S.-based MEMA, the Vehicle Suppliers Association, said to Reuters.The concerns raised by the American supplier group echo the call for help from European counterparts.Several European auto supplier plants and production lines have reportedly been shut down due to China’s curbs on the critical components, CNBC reported, citing Europe’s auto supplier association CLEPA.Since April, China, the top supplier of rare earth magnets, has required exporters to obtain licenses before shipping, following a tit-for-tat tariff war initiated by Donald Trump’s steep reciprocal tariffs.Rare earth elements are used in a variety of products, including combustion engines and electric vehicles.According to a CNBC report, CLEPA reportedly stated that hundreds of export license applications have been submitted to the Chinese authorities since early April, but only around 25% have been approved.According to the report, the top German car industry lobby, VDA, has also warned that export restrictions could soon lead to production being halted.Last week, Trump accused China of not honoring a preliminary trade deal between the two countries.U.S. carmakers are already facing supply shortages.
