Back in 2011, long before “crypto Twitter”, NFTs, or VC-backed chains existed, users of the BitcoinTalk forum came up with a new currency - not to launch a network, but to make fun of btc.... and so: The first memecoin/memecurrency was born.  On May 23, 2011, a Something Awful poster cracked, “Has anyone called them buttcoins yet?”. It was sophomoric and perfect. Within weeks the gag metastasized into Buttcoin.org, a parody blog that described a “peer to peer butt” economy while cataloging mining fiascos, exchange blowups, and MLM-adjacent “innovations”.

Buttcoin is surging in conversation as the community highlights its 15-year history as a parody of Bitcoin, with supporters framing it as a cultural staple that is finally gaining on-chain traction on Solana. Investors are actively debating its potential to flip market perceptions while emphasizing its unique lore and the recent involvement of verified project channels.

Ethereum is a global, open-source platform for decentralized applications. In other words, it is a decentralized blockchain platform that enables developers to build and deploy smart contracts and applications without central authority control. Unlike Bitcoin, which primarily functions as digital currency, Ethereum operates as a programmable global computer where developers can create any type of decentralized service.   The platform hosts over $14 billion in DeFi applications with hundreds of thousands of active users across financial protocols, NFT marketplaces, and gaming platforms. Its transition to Proof of Stake in September 2022 reduced energy consumption by over 99%, addressing environmental concerns while strengthening network security.  The network operates through thousands of independent validator nodes that process transactions and execute smart contracts on the Ethereum Virtual Machine. Smart contracts are self-executing programs written in Solidity that automatically carry out agreements when conditions are met, eliminating intermediaries like banks or brokers.   Validators stake ETH as collateral to propose and validate blocks, earning rewards for honest participation while facing penalties for malicious behavior. The EIP-1559 upgrade introduced a dynamic base fee mechanism that burns ETH with each transaction, creating deflationary pressure during high network activity when more ETH is burned than issued to validators.  Vitalik Buterin proposed Ethereum in 2013, but seven co-founders helped build it, including Gavin Wood who created Solidity and the EVM technical specification, and Joseph Lubin who founded ConsenSys. The project launched in July 2015 after raising over $18 million through crowdfunding, quickly becoming the largest blockchain developer community. Major milestones include the 2020 Beacon Chain launch, the 2021 London hard fork implementing fee burning, and the 2022 Merge to Proof of Stake.   Ether (ETH) serves multiple functions: paying transaction fees (gas), staking to secure the network and earn 3-5% annual yields, serving as collateral in DeFi protocols, and purchasing NFTs and digital assets. The asset is increasingly adopted by traditional institutions, with publicly traded companies adding ETH to corporate treasuries to generate staking yields while maintaining blockchain exposure, and in 2024, the SEC approved spot Ethereum ETFs, allowing traditional investors to gain exposure through conventional brokerage accounts.  Ethereum's roadmap focuses on dramatically increasing transaction capacity to over 100,000 per second, reducing confirmation times, and enhancing decentralization while maintaining security against future threats like quantum computing.

Ethereum is currently navigating a period of heightened volatility as the market balances institutional ETF inflows against ongoing geopolitical tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. The report noted that it is unclear whether, or when, the full list of cancellations will be implemented.Meanwhile, a source who saw the list described it as a “kill list,” signaling an escalation of the administration’s efforts against clean energy initiatives, the report said. It added that the move appears tied to the ongoing government shutdown, with the administration using the standoff to advance a broader policy agenda aimed at reversing Biden-era energy initiatives.Under the Biden administration, the U.S. embraced green energy projects, including carbon removal and clean hydrogen programs, as part of efforts to combat climate change. Trump Administration Reportedly Planning Another $12 Billion in Clean Energy Funding Cuts

The new list of clean energy projects that may be slashed follows the Trump administration's announcement of $8 billion in cuts last week.

The U.S. Department of Transportation on Friday said it is withdrawing or terminating $679 million in funding tied to 12 offshore wind projects.Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy called the projects “doomed” and said the decision reflects President Donald Trump’s push to redirect resources toward shipbuilding and traditional energy development. “Wasteful, wind projects are using resources that could otherwise go towards revitalizing America’s maritime industry,” Duffy said in the announcement.&nbsp;“Where possible, funding from these projects will be recompeted to address critical port upgrades and other core infrastructure needs of the United States,” the announcement added. President Donald Trump has doubled down on his opposition to solar and wind energy in his second term, recently&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/trump-calls-windmills-solar-the-scam-of-the-century/chsiApvRdhZ">calling</a> wind power and the dollar the “scam of the century” on Truth Social.The Department of Transportation (DOT) announced that it has withdrawn one project under the Nationally Significant Freight and Highways Projects (INFRA) program, resulting in a withdrawal of approximately $437 million. Trump’s Transportation Secretary Pulls $679 Million From ‘Doomed’ Offshore Wind Projects
