INS Taragiri to join Indian Navy fleet, boosting indigenous maritime power
In a major boost to India’s maritime strength, the Indian Navy is all set to induct its newest stealth warship, INS Taragiri, on April 3, 2026, at Visakhapatnam . The commissioning ceremony will be attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh , marking another significant step in strengthening the country’s naval capabilities and self-reliance in defence production. INS Taragiri is the fourth stealth frigate under the Project 17A programme and represents a new generation of advanced warships built with cutting-edge technology. Constructed by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited in Mumbai , the 6,670-tonne vessel reflects India’s growing expertise in indigenous shipbuilding, with more than 75 percent of its components sourced domestically. The project has also provided a major boost to the local defence ecosystem, involving over 200 MSMEs and generating large-scale employment. Designed with enhanced stealth features, Taragiri has a reduced radar signature, enabling it to operate with greater survivability in hostile environments.
