Litecoin is a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency created by Charlie Lee. It was created based on the Bitcoin protocol but differs in terms of the hashing algorithm used. Litecoin uses the memory intensive Scrypt proof of work mining algorithm. Scrypt allows consumer-grade hardware such as GPU to mine those coins.  Why Litecoin? Litecoin is a cryptocurrency that has evolved from Bitcoin after its own popularity in the industry, this alternative, or ‘altcoin’ has emerged to allow investors to diversify their digital currency package, according to Investopedia. Litecoin is one of the most prominent altcoins and was created by former Google employee and Director of Engineering at Coinbase, Charlie Lee. Litecoin was the first to alter Bitcoin and the most significant difference is that it takes 2.5 minutes for Litecoin to generate a block, or transaction, in comparison to Bitcoin's 10 minutes.  ‘While this matters little to traders, miners who use hardware to run Bitcoin's network cannot switch over to Litecoin. This keeps bigger mining conglomerates away from Litecoin because they cannot easily optimize their profits by swapping to another coin, contributing to a more decentralized experience. Litecoin also has bigger blocks, and more coins in circulation, making it more affordable and swift when transacting,’ Investopedia explained.  As explained above, Litecoin can transact a lot faster than Bitcoin, but there are also a number of other characteristics that investors need to know before trading. Litecoin can handle higher volumes of transactions because of the capability of transacting faster and if Bitcoin attempted to transact on the scale of its altcoin, a code update would be needed. However, Litecoin’s blocks would be larger, but with more ‘orphaned blocks'. The faster block time of litecoin reduces the risk of double spending attacks - this is theoretical in the case of both networks having the same hashing power.  Litecoin Technical Details: The transaction confirmation time taken for Litecoin is about 2.5 minutes on average (as compared to Bitcoin's 10 minutes). The Litecoin network is scheduled to cap at 84 million currency units.   Litecoin has inspired many other popular alternative currencies (eg. Dogecoin) because of its Scrypt hashing algorithm in order to prevent ASIC miners from mining those coins. However it is said that by the end of this year, Scrypt ASIC will enter the mass market.

The fee may be proportional to the amount of computation required by the transaction, similar to Ethereum’s concept of “gas”. Fee distribution is done in-protocol and a protocol specification is described here.  As staking tokens, ATOM can be “bonded” in order to earn block rewards. The economic security of the Cosmos Hub is a function of the amount of ATOM staked. The more ATOM that are collateralized, the more “skin” there is at stake and the higher the cost of attacking the network. Thus, the more ATOM there are bonded, the greater the economic security of the network.  Atom holders may govern the Cosmos Hub by voting on proposals with their staked ATOM.

As AI data centers grow alongside electric vehicles (EVs) and renewable energy, global copper demand could rise 50% by 2040, raising fresh concerns over supply constraints.A new S&amp;P Global report projects a potential shortfall of nearly 10 million metric tons by 2040 unless investment accelerates. They see annual copper demand rising from 28 million metric tons in 2025 to 42 million metric tons by 2040, a 50% increase driven by electrification.The surge in demand is being driven by four key areas: the rapid expansion of AI and data centers, core economic activity, energy transition, including EVs and renewables, and defense modernization.<h2 class="st-heading-2">AI To Drive Demand</h2>AI, in particular, has emerged as a strong new driver for copper demand. Data centers that support AI workloads are extremely energy-intensive and require extensive copper cabling for power delivery, cooling, and network connections. AI is set to increase copper demand by 2 million metric tons between 2025 and 2040 for both IT infrastructure and the electricity needed to run it, the report added.Global data-center dealmaking surged to a record high through November last year, driven by rising demand for computing infrastructure. More than 100 data-center transactions were completed during the period, with total deal value around $61 billion, according to a Reuters report last month.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Supply Chain Bottlenecks</h2>Copper mining faces declining ore grades, rising extraction costs, long development timelines for new projects, which often exceed 15 years, and environmental and regulatory hurdles. Without substantial investment to expand mining and processing capacity, S&amp;P Global projects a possible shortfall of nearly a quarter of projected demand.While recycling could help relieve some of the supply pressures, coordinated efforts from industry, governments, and investors will be required to speed up new mine development, streamline permitting, and build the infrastructure needed to sustain large-scale copper production, the report added.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Outlook</h2>Market participants are bullish on copper for 2026, citing strong Chinese demand, AI-driven data center growth, a softer US dollar, and potential Fed rate cuts, according to an Argus Media report earlier this week. Based on these metrics, silver appears to be overbought, according to Bauer.Silver spot (XAG/USD) was trading at $71.75 per troy ounce at the time of writing.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Historic Run</h2>Silver has had a historic run in 2025, climbing nearly 150% in the year. The white metal has hit multiple all-time highs, with the most recent being $83.64 on Dec. 29, 2025.However, a surging three-week flow into the ProShares Ultra Silver ETF (AGQ) signals heightened speculation and retail participation, according to Bauer. Yet, the metal’s year-end rally has not yet pushed into excessive optimism, the strategist added.Bauer believes that this is an aging silver bull market, based on return and duration measures. He added that the positioning and sentiment below prior extremes indicate that a minor correction may position the metal for additional upside.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Rising Demand</h2>Silver’s 2025 rally comes as demand for the metal has increased amid rising industrial use.
