Stankey also mentioned AT&amp;T’s upcoming acquisition of EchoStar’s spectrum as part of the company’s wider US investment strategy, a report from Semafor&nbsp;said, citing people familiar with the matter.&nbsp;</p><p>White House chief of Staff Susie Wiles referenced Stankey’s meeting with Trump publicly at a Business Roundtable event that Stankey attended, the report said.&nbsp;</p><h2 class="st-heading-2">Details</h2><p>According to Semafor, AT&amp;T denied a quid-pro-quo between Stankey’s meeting and the Justice Department’s review of the EchoStar deal.</p><p>“Our $250 billion commitment is driven by the need to provide connectivity for innovation and growth in the AI era,” an AT&amp;T spokesperson said of the company’s announcement this week per the report. It wasn’t based on “some absurd claim fabricated by an anonymous source likely threatened by the increased competition that would benefit consumers if the EchoStar spectrum acquisition is approved.”</p><h2 class="st-heading-2">Deal With EchoStar</h2><p>In August last year, AT&amp;T said it agreed to purchase certain wireless spectrum licenses from EchoStar (SATS) for a total of approximately $23 billion. The two firms also agreed to enhance their long-term wholesale network services agreement, enabling EchoStar to operate as a hybrid mobile network operator (MNO).&nbsp;</p><p>AT&amp;T is set to acquire approximately 30 MHz of nationwide 3.45 GHz mid-band spectrum and approximately 20 MHz of nationwide 600 MHz low-band spectrum for approximately $23 billion in an all-cash transaction.&nbsp;</p><p>AT&amp;T at the time said that the transaction is expected to close in mid-2026, subject to certain closing conditions, including regulatory approvals.</p><h2 class="st-heading-2">Retail Reaction</h2><p>Retail sentiment around T trended in ‘extremely bullish’ territory amid ‘high’ message volume.&nbsp;</p><p>Shares in the company have risen 11.8% so far in 2026.&nbsp;</p>

The agreement allows the company to access up to $5.25 billion in advances and replaces its previous 364-Day Credit Agreement of the same amount, as per a <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.sec.gov/ix?doc=/Archives/edgar/data/0001744489/000119312526088356/d116769d8k.htm">filing</a> with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.&nbsp;</p><p>The 364-Day Credit Agreement will expire on Feb. 26, 2027. The fund is diversified across 700 positions.&nbsp;</p><p>BCRED’s first-quarter&nbsp;(Q1) redemption requests totaled 7.9% of the outstanding shares, up from 4.5% in Q4.&nbsp;</p><p>“Total repurchase requests for the quarter exceeded the 5% of shares typically available for repurchase. The Board elected to upsize the offer to 7% of shares, the maximum amount permitted without changing the terms of the repurchase offer,”&nbsp;the company said, according to a regulatory filing. The firm is meeting requests by stepping in, alongside employees, to offset the remaining 0.9%.&nbsp;</p><h2 class="st-heading-2">Troubles In Private Credit</h2><p>The private credit industry has been seeing&nbsp;a rise in redemption rates across several funds over fears&nbsp;about the asset class, as well as its exposure to software businesses, which are at risk of AI-related disruption.</p><p>Blue Owl last month permanently stopped allowing redemptions from Blue Owl Capital Corp. II, a semi-liquid private credit fund marketed to U.S. retail investors, abandoning its earlier plan to reopen withdrawals later this quarter. The firm said it would begin returning investor capital.</p><h2 class="st-heading-2">Analyst Take</h2><p>Evercore ISI analyst Glenn Schorr&nbsp;said in an analyst note that Blackstone's perpetual, non-traded BDC, BCRED, reported rise in redemption rate for Q1 compared to Q4, and BCRED will fulfill 100% of requests this quarter, even though repurchases exceeded both the 5% tender offer and the subsequently upsized 7% cap, as per TheFly.&nbsp;</p><p>The firm said investors were not anticipating redemption requests approaching 8% and it expects the group will face "a challenging trading session”. Schorr further added that BCRED, the "category leader in private credit," has "effectively raised the bar for all the other non-traded BDCs," narrowly avoiding the potential backlash associated with gating redemptions.&nbsp;Evercore ISI&nbsp;kept an ‘Outperform’ rating and $170 price target on Blackstone shares.&nbsp;</p><p>Goldman Sachs noted that Blackstone reported flow trends across a number of Wealth products, including BCRED. The report emphasized that it is exploring under-researched situations.</p><p>Citrini Research report said it sees a scenario&nbsp;wherein, looking back from 2028, the AI explosion leads to a plunge in white-collar employment and ultimately to a stock market crash.</p><p>In Citrini’s hypothetical scenario for 2027, initial indicators of hidden financial strain emerged, such as increased HELOC activity, more frequent 401(k) withdrawals, and rising credit card balances, even though mortgage payments were kept up to date. As unemployment climbed, hiring stalled, and bonuses were eliminated, these high-credit households experienced their debt-to-income ratios doubling.</p><h2 class="st-heading-2">Wells Fargo On AXP</h2><p>Wells Fargo on Monday said that the selloff today in shares of American Express "represents a unique opportunity" to buy the stock at an attractive valuation.&nbsp;</p><p>“Wells disagrees with the negative AI reports in the market today that it says highlight material unemployment risk and stablecoin. The U.S. consumer is stable with strength in the affluent segment and will benefit from stimulus through the year,” the analyst told investors in a research note.&nbsp;</p><p>It is "rational to worry about white-collar job losses from AI, but not to the scale that bears seem to highlight today," Wells contends.
