Bitcoin is the first successful internet money based on peer-to-peer technology; whereby no central bank or authority is involved in the transaction and production of the Bitcoin currency. It was created by an anonymous individual/group under the name, Satoshi Nakamoto. The source code is available publicly as an open source project, anybody can look at it and be part of the developmental process.  Bitcoin is changing the way we see money as we speak. The idea was to produce a means of exchange, independent of any central authority, that could be transferred electronically in a secure, verifiable and immutable way. It is a decentralized peer-to-peer internet currency making mobile payment easy, very low transaction fees, protects your identity, and it works anywhere all the time with no central authority and banks.  Bitcoin is designed to have only 21 million BTC ever created, thus making it a deflationary currency. Bitcoin uses the SHA-256 hashing algorithm with an average transaction confirmation time of 10 minutes. Miners today are mining Bitcoin using ASIC chip dedicated to only mining Bitcoin, and the hash rate has shot up to peta hashes.  Being the first successful online cryptography currency, Bitcoin has inspired other alternative currencies such as Litecoin, Peercoin, Primecoin, and so on.  The cryptocurrency then took off with the innovation of the turing-complete smart contract by Ethereum which led to the development of other amazing projects such as EOS, Tron, and even crypto-collectibles such as CryptoKitties.

Wells Fargo on Tuesday announced that it has appointed its CEO, Charlie Scharf, as Chairman of the Board after reporting a 17% increase in diluted earnings per share (EPS) in the third quarter (Q3).The bank reported diluted EPS of $1.66 for the three months through the end of September, up from $1.42 in the corresponding quarter of 2024, and beating an analyst estimate of $1.53, according to data from Fiscal AI.Revenue for the quarter came in at $21.44 billion, up 5% year-on-year and above an estimated $21.11 billion.Shares of WFC traded 3% higher in the pre-market session at the time of writing. For Q3, its ROTCE stood at 15.2%, while the return on equity (ROE) came in at 12.8%.“We grew our balance sheet, including the highest linked-quarter loan growth in over three years. Credit performance was strong and continued to improve. We returned a significant amount of capital to our shareholders in the third quarter including increasing our common stock dividend by 12.5% and repurchasing $6.1 billion of common stock,” Scharf said.“While some economic uncertainty remains, the U.S. economy has been resilient and the financial health of our clients and customers remains strong. General Motors (GM) is reportedly scrapping a program aimed at allowing dealers to continue offering $7,500 tax credit on EV leases despite the expiry of the federal incentive on September 30.Reuters <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/gm-backtracks-plan-claim-last-minute-ev-tax-credits-2025-10-08/">reported</a> on Wednesday that the automaker devised a scheme towards the end of September under which its in-house lending arm, called GM Financial, would initiate the purchase of EVs in its dealers’ inventory. The automaker planned to apply for the federal tax credit on those cars. This money would then be rolled into EV lease terms for customers through the end of the year under the plan.The company was planning to claim credit on roughly 20,000 EVs on dealership lots or en route to stores under the plan, the report said.However, GM has now opted to kill the plan and decided not to claim the tax credit, a spokesperson told Reuters. Amazon To Close Its ‘Amazon Fresh UK’ Stores

Amazon announced that it would offer redeployment opportunities to as many affected employees as possible following the closure of its Fresh stores.

Amazon (AMZN) is reportedly facing off against the Federal Trade Commission in a closely watched trial based on allegations that the company misled consumers into enrolling in its Prime membership program.According to a CNBC report, the trial is being held in a federal court in Seattle. The report added that the trial was expected to last approximately a month and that jury selection began on Monday, with opening arguments slated for Tuesday.The report added that the FTC filed the lawsuit in June 2023 under the Biden administration, alleging that Amazon misled tens of millions of consumers into enrolling in its Prime subscription and deliberately obstructed their efforts to cancel. The company has denied any wrongdoing.Retail sentiment around <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/AMZN">Amazon</a> remained unchanged in the ‘bullish’ territory, with message volumes at ‘high’ levels, according to data from Stocktwits.CNBC noted that regulators argued that Amazon broke competition and consumer protection laws by allegedly misleading users into signing up for its Prime membership. Amazon Faces FTC In Trial Over Alleged Prime Enrollment Strategy: Report

European Medicines Agency’s Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) has adopted two positive opinions for Merck’s (MRK) blockbuster cancer drug Keytruda, the company said on Friday.While one of the opinions recommends approval for a new subcutaneous route of administration and a new solution form for injection for Keytruda, the other recommends approval for the drug in treating locally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, Merck <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.merck.com/news/merck-receives-two-positive-eu-chmp-opinions-for-keytruda-pembrolizumab-for-subcutaneous-sc-administration-and-for-new-indication-for-earlier-stage-head-and-neck-cancer/">said</a>.The committee’s recommendations will now be reviewed by the European Commission. Final decisions on marketing authorization in the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway are expected in the fourth quarter.Shares of the company rose marginally in Friday’s pre-market session. On Stocktwits, retail sentiment about <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/MRK">MRK stock</a> stayed within the ‘bearish’ territory over the past 24 hours, while message volume fell from ‘normal’ to ‘low’ levels.If approved for under-the-skin administration by a healthcare provider, the solution form for injection of Keytruda will be marketed in the European Union as Keytruda SC, the company said. It could be administered in one minute every three weeks or in two minutes every six weeks, offering an alternative to intravenous infusion.“If approved, we believe KEYTRUDA SC has the potential to provide meaningful benefits to patients and providers in Europe because it can offer a shorter administration time compared to KEYTRUDA and the option to receive treatment in additional health care settings,” said Marjorie Green, senior vice president and head of oncology at Merck Research Laboratories. CHMP’s positive opinion applies to all Keytruda indications approved for adult patients in Europe.An application seeking approval of subcutaneous Keytruda is currently under review in the U.S. as well. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is expected to decide on the application by September 23.The second CHMP opinion recommends approval of Keytruda as treatment of resectable locally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (LA-HNSCC). Head and neck cancer describes several different tumors that develop in or around the throat, larynx, nose, sinuses, and mouth. It is estimated that there were more than 947,200 new cases of head and neck cancer diagnosed globally and more than 482,400 deaths from the disease in 2022, Merck said.Keytruda is Merck’s best-selling drug.
