Kotak Mutual Fund has temporarily halted fresh lump-sum and switch-in investments in its Kotak Silver ETF Fund of Fund (FoF), effective Friday. This decision comes in response to a significant surge in the domestic silver premium, which has risen from approximately 0.5% in early September to 5.7% as of October 9.Kotak said that investments are halted as the current premium makes new purchases less efficient. The fund clarified that Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs) and redemptions will continue without interruption.The underlying Kotak Silver ETF, being a listed fund, remains open for trading and is not subject to suspension. Kotak MF said fresh subscriptions to the fund of funds will resume once the spot premium stabilizes and aligns with the import parity price. Despite the temporary halt, the fund house reaffirmed its positive long-term outlook on silver.“Keeping in mind the high spot premium for Silver over the import parity price, Kotak MF is suspending lump sum subscription in Kotak Silver ETF Fund of Fund. SIPs and redemptions will continue as before in the regular course of business. Kotak Silver ETF, being a listed fund, doesn’t have a provision for suspension. Silver, too, reached new highs as demand picked up alongside global price gains.Shares of silver miner <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/HINDZINC.NSE">Hindustan Zinc</a> were up 3.6% to ₹434.65 in afternoon trade on Monday. &nbsp;The upcoming festive season, with Dussehra and Diwali, is expected to drive consumer demand further and keep prices buoyant.On September 1, the price of 24-carat gold jumped by ₹930 to ₹105,880 per 10 grams, while 22-carat gold rose by ₹850 to ₹97,050 per 10 grams. 18-carat gold increased by ₹700 to ₹79,410 per 10 grams. For 100 grams, 24-carat gold now costs ₹1,058,800, while 22-carat gold is priced at ₹970,500.Futures trading reflected similar strength. At the Multi-Commodity Exchange, gold futures maturing on October 3 traded at ₹104,785 per 10 grams. Silver futures, set to mature on September 5, reached a record ₹122,679, up 1.09%.Globally, spot gold gained 0.83% to $3,473.2 per ounce, its highest since April. Silver Prices Slip Over 3% From Recent 13-Year High, But Analysts Say Solar And Industrial Demand Still Support Bull Case

JPMorgan’s Greg Shearer told The Wall Street Journal that solar-related silver demand may slow later this year after being pulled forward ahead of expected trade and energy policy changes in the U.S.
