FIFA, the biggest name in sports, wants to connect with its massive fan base of five billion people through a platform that will grant access to everything from digital collectibles and one-of-a-kind fan experiences.

And to do that, they've picked Avalanche (AVAX).

Rather than link with different crypto projects, they have chosen to keep it all in the family - as such, they’ve created a system that is easy to use and simply works.

“You can think of the FIFA Blockchain as a highway that is custom built on top of Avalanche’s infrastructure,” according to the announcement.

FIFA is allowed to make up all the rules - from fees to how the system functions. That’s lightning fast and cheap, ideal for processing the surge of activity that comes with running major tournaments like the World Cup.

And, developers who have built stuff for Ethereum (ETH) can more or less directly transfer their apps over, making it as convenient as possible for everyone. The first major move will be relocating FIFA’s digital collectibles program, “FIFA Collect,” onto this new platform.

Modex, a project that’s collaborated with FIFA previously on crypto initiatives, is developing the marketplace. They selected Avalanche after considering all the options available, since it most closely matches what FIFA wants to fulfil in the long term.

The goal? To consolidate to a single platform a multitude of digital items, including digital collectibles and even perhaps match tickets and fan rewards programs.

The FIFA Blockchain demonstrates the speed with which Avalanche can offer the operating environment that big institutions require while remaining true to blockchain’s decentralized roots.

More apps that focus on sports, and similar content, will consider to join, and to play in front of FIFA’s immense crowd, according to Francesco Abbate, CEO of Modex.

As sports and Web3 continue to merge, FIFA's showing how custom blockchains can bring the beautiful game's fans into the digital future.
