Like other cryptocurrencies, Ripple is built atop the idea of a distributed ledger network which requires various parties to participate in validating transactions, rather than any singular centralized authority. That facilitates transactions all over the world, and transfer fees are far cheaper than the likes of bitcoin. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XRP transfers are effectively immediate, requiring no typical confirmation time.  Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. Moderna Secures $1.5B Credit Facility As It Seeks To Pivot Away From Vaccines

(PM) said on Wednesday that its experts met with the Tobacco Products Scientific Advisory Committee on October 7 as it seeks to continue marketing versions of its IQOS heated tobacco products in the U.S. as modified risk tobacco products.The committee provides nonbinding recommendations to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Center for Tobacco Products (CTP). Philip Morris Seeks FDA Approval To Keep IQOS Modified Risk Designation For Later Versions Of Device

The modified risk tobacco product designation granted by the FDA initially in 2020 allowed the company to advertise IQOS’ perks. 

Shares of CarMax (KMX) slumped 24% on Thursday morning after the company’s second-quarter earnings fell below Wall Street expectations, sparking a downgrade by Wedbush.<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://media.carmax.com/press-releases/news-release/2025/CarMax-Reports-Second-Quarter-Fiscal-Year-2026-Results/default.aspx">Total vehicle sales</a> for the company declined 4.1% year-over-year in the quarter to 338,031 units, resulting in a 6% decrease in revenue to $6.59 billion, which fell short of the estimated $7.02 billion. Net earnings per share came in at $0.64, down from $0.85 in the corresponding quarter of 2024.Total net income declined 28% to $95.4 million, while income from the company’s auto finance business fell 11.2% to $102.6 million. Bristol Myers To Sell Plaque Psoriasis Drug For Over 80% Discount Starting In 2026

Shares of DexCom (DXCM) declined 10% on Friday after investment firm Hunterbrook Capital disclosed a short position in the stock.Hunterbrook <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://hntrbrk.com/dexcom/">said</a> on Thursday that it has a short position on DXCM based on Hunterbrook Media’s reporting, which stated that after inaccurate readings from Dexcom’s flagship G7 continuous glucose monitor (CGM) device, “some diabetics are ending up in the ICU — or dead.” Hunterbrook Media is an investigative news outlet.The report stated that DexCom made an unauthorized design change to a key component of the G7 that internal studies showed was inferior by “every accuracy metric,” and the company sold the device anyway. This change was revealed during a surprise inspection by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the report stated.Several company executives left the company amid the FDA’s scrutiny and soaring complaints, the report said, while adding that patients are now returning to the G6 or switching to products from competitors, such as Abbott (ABT).Hunterbrook also stated that it has shared its probe with a senior official from the Health and Human Services (HHS) and requested that the FDA intervene. The firm also said that DexCom didn't respond to their requests for comments. The report named people who died or had to be hospitalized following wrong readings by the G7 device, including Billy Sosbe, who died in June, and Diana Bates Knight, who rushed her 6-year-old to the emergency, after the device misread her blood sugar by hundreds of points.“In Dexcom’s crisis, Abbott may see its chance. (REGN) announced on Tuesday that the late-stage trial evaluating its investigational Cemdisiran monotherapy in adults with generalized myasthenia gravis (MG) yielded positive results.MG is a rare and chronic autoimmune disease where disrupted communication between nerves and muscles results in debilitating and potentially life-threatening muscle weakness. According to Regeneron, the disease impacts approximately 85,000 people in the U.S.Both Cemdisiran and the combination of Cemdisiran and the approved antibody Pozelimab (cemdi-poze) demonstrated improvements in activities of daily functioning such as talking, eating, breathing, vision, and mobility at week 24. Serious TEAEs occurred in 3% of patients treated with Cemdisiran, 9% with cemdi-poze, and 14% with placebo, the company said. However, there were no treatment discontinuations due to adverse events through week 24 in the Cemdisiran arm, it added.The company also said that there were no deaths during the 24-week placebo-controlled portion of the trial. During the extension period, however, one death due to pneumonia occurred in the Cemdisiran arm, and one death due to septic shock occurred in the combination arm. The agency extended review time after determining that information provided since the completion of a recent inspection of a third-party manufacturer constituted a major amendment to each submission. Currently, Humana provides a decision within one business day on more than 85% of outpatient procedures.Humana will remove the authorization requirement for diagnostic services, including colonoscopies and transthoracic echocardiograms, as well as select CT scans and MRIs, by January 1, it said. &nbsp;The company also announced that it will launch a new gold card program in 2026, which will waive prior authorization requirements for certain items and services for providers who have a proven record of submitting coverage requests that meet medical criteria.Starting in 2026, the insurance provider will also report its prior authorization metrics to increase transparency.
