Validators stake ETH as collateral to propose and validate blocks, earning rewards for honest participation while facing penalties for malicious behavior. The EIP-1559 upgrade introduced a dynamic base fee mechanism that burns ETH with each transaction, creating deflationary pressure during high network activity when more ETH is burned than issued to validators.  Vitalik Buterin proposed Ethereum in 2013, but seven co-founders helped build it, including Gavin Wood who created Solidity and the EVM technical specification, and Joseph Lubin who founded ConsenSys. The project launched in July 2015 after raising over $18 million through crowdfunding, quickly becoming the largest blockchain developer community. Major milestones include the 2020 Beacon Chain launch, the 2021 London hard fork implementing fee burning, and the 2022 Merge to Proof of Stake.   Ether (ETH) serves multiple functions: paying transaction fees (gas), staking to secure the network and earn 3-5% annual yields, serving as collateral in DeFi protocols, and purchasing NFTs and digital assets. Ethereum's roadmap focuses on dramatically increasing transaction capacity to over 100,000 per second, reducing confirmation times, and enhancing decentralization while maintaining security against future threats like quantum computing.

Shares of Swiss pharmaceutical giant Novartis AG were flat on Friday morning in heavy trading volume, despite the company reporting impressive quarterly results.&nbsp;Novartis posted core fourth-quarter (Q4) earnings per share (EPS) of $1.98, up from $1.53 last year, beating the consensus estimate of $1.80.&nbsp;Meanwhile, Q4 revenue reached $13.2 billion, surpassing the previous year’s $11.4 billion and analysts’ expectations of $12.84 billion.The company attributed its strong sales growth to its blockbuster heart-failure drug Entresto and arthritis medication Cosentyx.&nbsp;CEO Vas Narasimhan expressed optimism, stating, “In our first full year as a pure-play innovative medicines company, Novartis delivered one of the strongest financial performances in our history, growing sales 12% cc [constant currency basis] and core operating income 22% cc.”&nbsp;He added that the company achieved key innovation milestones, including new drug approvals and promising data that would drive growth in the mid- to long-term.Despite the upbeat results, retail sentiment on Stocktwits was mixed. Novartis Gets Retail Chatting After Upbeat Q4, But Sentiment Stays Tepid Amid Volatile Trading

U.S. shares of Sony Group Corp. (<a class="mention" data-mention="$SONY" data-symbol-id="SONY" href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/SONY" target="_blank">$SONY</a>) surged over 7% pre-market Friday after the company reported a 69% jump in fiscal&nbsp;second-quarter (Q2) profit, driven by strength in its gaming and imaging divisions.&nbsp;Sony posted a profit of 338.5 billion yen (about $2.21 billion) on revenue of 2.91 trillion yen, up 3% year-over-year.&nbsp;The&nbsp;earnings per share (EPS) of 55.86 yen beat the consensus estimate of 39.84 yen, according to FactSet.The company saw robust performance in its Game &amp; Network Services and Imaging &amp; Sensing Solutions segments.&nbsp;Operating profit for the imaging business nearly doubled to 92.41 billion yen due to strong demand for image sensors, though Sony lowered its full-year sales and profit outlook for this segment.&nbsp;Despite selling only 3.8 million PlayStation 5 units this quarter — down from 4.9 million a year ago — Sony raised its annual profit forecast for the game division to 355.0 billion yen from 320.0 billion yen.Sony also launched its upgraded PlayStation 5 Pro this week, ahead of the holiday season, offering enhanced performance over the original 2020 model.&nbsp;The company revised its revenue forecast for the fiscal year ending March 2025, now expecting a 2.4% decline to 12.71 trillion yen, slightly better than the previously forecasted 3.2% drop.&nbsp;However, it maintained its outlook for a modest 1% increase in net profit to 980.0 billion yen.On Stocktwits, Sony was one of the top 30 trending tickers as of 7:30 am ET, reflecting heightened retail interest.&nbsp;<stembedurl>https://stocktwits.com/DT777/message/591690734</stembedurl>Still, Sony’s U.S.-listed shares are down over 2% year-to-date.
