Following Wednesday’s 7.4%&nbsp;plunge,&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/CORZ">CORZ stock</a>&nbsp;is headed for its worst week since early August.Dover, Delaware-based Core Scientific, a data center infrastructure and crypto mining company, has agreed to be taken over by Nvidia-backed CoreWeave (CRWV) in an all-stock transaction. Core Scientific shareholders would receive 0.1235 newly-issued Class A common stock for every CORZ stock they hold, translating to a total deal value of about $9 billion compared to Core Scientific’s current market capitalization of $5.471 billion.Buoyed by artificial intelligence (AI)-related demand for infrastructure and the CoreWeave deal, the stock has been on a broader uptrend since the post-tariff lows seen in early April. The stock had hit an all-time high of $20.36 (intraday) on Oct. 16 but has since retreated from the peak.<h2 class="st-heading-2">What’s Ailing CORZ Stock&nbsp;</h2>The recent weakness in Core Scientific stock may be partly attributed to the crypto market's weakness amid an uncertain geopolitical backdrop. <a href="https://stocktwits.com/coins/bitcoin">Bitcoin</a> has lost about 14% from its Oct. 6 peak of $126,198.07, indicating it is in correction territory.Core Scientific derives a bulk of its total revenue from digital asset self-mining and hosted mining. The second-quarter results released in early August showed that roughly 87% of the total revenue of $78.6 million was derived from these two segments. Colocation revenue related to high-performance computing hosting contributed only $10.6.Additionally, proxy advisory firms ISS and Glass Lewis have opposed the CoreWeave deal, urging Core Scientific shareholders to vote against the latter’s sale to the former.In a statement, Glass Lewis said, “The market's prolonged discount of the deal's implied value to Core Scientific's share price—combined with the absence of any mechanisms to mitigate downside risk—indicates that the proposed exchange does not adequately compensate Core Scientific shareholders for the risks inherent in the CoreWeave consideration.”&nbsp; Two Seas Capital, one of the largest Core Scientific shareholders, has also opposed the proposed transaction.Responding to the development, CoreWeave said in a statement released late Wednesday that it disagreed with the proxy firms’ rejection call. “While neither ISS nor Glass Lewis questions the strategic merit of the transaction, both base their recommendations largely on the current Core Scientific stock price and overlook the risks of a standalone Core Scientific,” it said.In a CNBC interview CEO, CoreWeave CEO Michael Intrator&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/10/21/coreweave-ceo-on-core-scientific-deal-as-shareholder-opposition-rises.html">said</a> earlier this week that Core Scientific would be a “nice to have” rather than a necessity, adding that CoreWeave would not sweeten its offer.<h2 class="st-heading-2">What Retail’s Feeling About Core Scientific Stock</h2>On Stocktwits, retail sentiment toward Core Scientific stock remained ‘bullish’ as of early Thursday, although down from the ‘extremely bullish’ sentiment seen from a week ago. "I think we're going to have a very successful meeting. Certainly, there are a lot of people that are waiting for it," Trump said about his upcoming meeting with Xi in South Korea. "Maybe it won't happen. Things can happen where, for instance, maybe somebody will say, 'I don't want to meet. It's too nasty'. The performance of Bitcoin miners Marathon Digital (MARA) and Riot Platforms (RIOT) was mixed.&nbsp;<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/MARA">MARA’s stock</a> gained 1.2%, while&nbsp;<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/RIOT">RIOT’s stock</a> climbed more than 1.70%. Crypto-exchange Coinbase (<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/COIN">COIN</a>) was up 0.60%.The dip in the crypto market led to nearly $650 million in liquidations over the past 24 hours, according to Coinglass&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.coinglass.com/LiquidationData">data</a>. Most of the liquidations came from long bets, traders who bet that the price of cryptocurrencies would rise, amounting to around $490 million. Short liquidations were around $160 million. BNB Hits Record $1,330 While Bitcoin, Ethereum Retreat Amid $650 Million Liquidations

Meme token Dogecoin saw the steepest decline among the top 10 cryptocurrencies, falling 4.3% in the last 24 hours. 

Anthony Pompliano, founder and CEO of Professional Capital Management and a prominent crypto investor, said on Tuesday that Bitcoin (BTC) is emerging as the new “hurdle rate” for investors.“Historically, we’ve looked at things like the S&amp;P 500,” he&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hse-H-JUXGY">told</a> CNBC in an interview. “Since 2020, the S&amp;P is up 100%, but priced to Bitcoin, it’s down 90%.”&nbsp;Pompliano added that most traditional finance returns fail to match Bitcoin’s performance, emphasizing the simplicity and scarcity of Bitcoin as key drivers of its appeal. “They are never going to stop printing money, so Bitcoin will never stop going up. Think of Bitcoin as savings technology: work hard, spend less than you earn, and put the extra into Bitcoin,” he said.&nbsp;<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/BTC.X">Bitcoin’s price</a> was trading at around $125,000 in early morning trade on Tuesday after hitting an all-time high of more than $126,000 during the&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/cryptocurrency/bitcoin-price-hits-another-record-high-as-it-surges-past-125800/ch6ROvTR3gt">previous session</a>. On Stocktwits, retail sentiment around the apex cryptocurrency trended in ‘extremely bullish’ territory amid ‘high’ levels of chatter.Pompliano noted that Bitcoin’s price is likely to keep rising because a growing share of BTC is being moved into illiquid supply, increasing pressure on prices. “Every Bitcoin that I buy, no one’s touching again until I die,” Pompliano said. “As more capital flows in and holders remain unwilling to sell, prices naturally rise to clear the market.”Pompliano also compared Bitcoin to gold, noting the overlapping interests of investors. “Bitcoin and gold are brothers in arms in the fight against currency debasement,” he said. “Gold has outperformed Bitcoin this year, but over the last five years, Bitcoin’s growth has far exceeded gold’s. Retail sentiment on Stocktwits around the apex cryptocurrency surged to ‘extremely bullish’ from ‘bullish’ territory over the past day amid ‘high’ levels of chatter. Since the U.S. government&nbsp;entered a shutdown&nbsp;on Wednesday, Bitcoin has gained&nbsp;more than 8%.&nbsp;According to Standard Chartered’s Global Head of Digital Assets Research, Geoff Kendrick, Bitcoin was&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/cryptocurrency/standard-chartered-sees-bitcoin-reaching-new-record-high-in-a-week/chCujhfR3QR">slated</a> to hit a new record and should rally as high as $135,000. “The shutdown matters this time around,” he wrote. “During the previous Trump shutdown, Bitcoin was in a different place than now, so it did little.
