It is incorporated in Hong Kong. It has emerged that Jan Ludovicus van der Velde is the CEO of cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex, which has been accused of being involved in the price manipulation of bitcoin, as well as tether. Many people trading on exchanges, including Bitfinex, will use tether to buy other cryptocurrencies like bitcoin. Tether Limited argues that using this method to buy virtual currencies allows users to move fiat in and out of an exchange more quickly and cheaply. Also, exchanges typically have rocky relationships with banks, and using Tether is a way to circumvent that.  USDT is fairly simple to use. Once on exchanges like Poloniex or Bittrex, it can be used to purchase Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. It can be easily transferred from an exchange to any Omni Layer enabled wallet. Tether has no transaction fees, although external wallets and exchanges may charge one. In order to convert USDT to USD and vise versa through the Tether.to Platform, users must pay a small fee. Buying and selling Tether for Bitcoin can be done through a variety of exchanges like the ones mentioned previously or through the Tether.to platform, which also allows the conversion between USD to and from your bank account.

<ul class="summary-bullets"><li>Veteran commodities trader Ole Hansen said gold faces the risk of a deeper correction if it breaks below the 50-day moving average.</li><li>Analysts point to a stronger U.S. dollar as a key driver of gold’s decline, with the U.S. Dollar Index rising over 2% since the Middle East conflict began.</li><li>According to data from the CME FedWatch tool, there is a 98.9% probability of the Fed keeping the rates steady on Wednesday.</li></ul>Gold prices are sliding, on track for a sixth consecutive session of losses, despite rising geopolitical tensions stemming from the war in the Middle East.&nbsp;This is an unusual trend for bullion, which is typically seen as a safe-haven asset, and it is currently flashing three signals that could potentially point towards a deeper pullback.&nbsp;At the time of writing, spot gold (XAU/USD) fell more than 0.3% to $4,990 per ounce, while futures for May 2026 deliveries traded around 0.3% lower at $5,013.6 per ounce.Since the war between the U.S., Iran, and Israel broke out on February 28, spot gold prices have declined nearly 6%.The divergence is a reflection of a market that is increasingly being driven by macro forces rather than safe-haven flows.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Three Signals Point To Weakening Momentum</h2>First, the precious metal is now testing its 50-day moving average (DMA) for the first time since early February. Secondly, the metal has been forming a pattern of lower highs on its daily chart, which indicates fading buying pressure.&nbsp;Spot gold formed a lower high on the daily chart on February 2 and fell nearly 5% in the following session.&nbsp;Veteran commodities analyst Ole Hansen of Saxo Bank noted that gold continues to “struggle for momentum.” In a post on X on Wednesday, Hansen said the bullion faces the risk of a deeper correction if it breaks below the 50-day moving average near $4,978 per ounce, while a move above $5,080 an ounce could point to underlying strength.<figure class="image"><a class="st-link-external" href="https://x.com/Ole_S_Hansen/status/2034183419458920587" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"><img src="https://news.stocktwits-cdn.com/Hansen_jpg_ee26d2900f.webp" alt="Hansen.jpg" width="726" height="765"></a></figure>“Focus remains on the U.S. dollar, which has softened, and not least today’s FOMC meeting, where investors are seeking guidance after the recent surge in energy prices tempered expectations for rate cuts in 2026,” Hansen added.He also added that silver continues to trade over its support at $77.5 an ounce. Spot silver (XAG/USD) was up 0.7% at $79.8 an ounce while contracts expiring in May 2026 fell 0.1% to $79.8 per ounce. Spot prices have declined around 17% since the war began.And thirdly, the near 6% fall in gold prices since the Iran conflict began, could raise concerns that the current pullback may be more than a short-term dip.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Stronger Dollar Keeps Investors On The Sidelines</h2>The U.S. Dollar has strengthened over the past few weeks, with the U.S. Dollar Index (DXY) gaining more than 2% since the war began. The&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/DXY">DXY</a> measures the greenback’s strength against a basket of six key currencies: the euro, Japanese yen, pound sterling, Canadian dollar, Swedish krona, and Swiss franc.&nbsp;Rebecca Christie, a senior fellow at Bruegel, told Al Jazeera on Wednesday that a stronger dollar can make it harder for investors to drive gold prices higher, since the metal is priced in U.S. currency.“Also, a rising dollar provides an alternative safe-haven choice, and higher oil prices probably will lead to higher inflation, which also will make the dollar more attractive,” Christie said.<h2 class="st-heading-2">All Eyes On Fed Rate Decision</h2>Investors will also keep an eye on the U.S. Federal Reserve’s rate decision later on Wednesday, amid rising inflation risks driven by the Middle East conflict.According to data from the CME FedWatch tool, there is a 98.9% probability of the Fed keeping the rates steady and a 1.1% chance of a 25-basis-point rate increase. A week back, the figures stood at 99.9% and 0.1%, respectively.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Gold Miners Track The Weakness</h2>Meanwhile, major gold miners&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/B">Barrick Mining Corp</a> (B) and&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/NEM">Newmont Corp</a>. (NEM) fell 0.4% and 0.7%, respectively, in pre-market trading on Tuesday. B shares have declined around 10.6% and NEM stock has shed around 11.6% since the war began.Meanwhile the <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/GLD">SPDR Gold Shares ETF</a> (GLD) was down more than 1% in pre-market trading, having shed 5% since the close of trading on February 27. The dollar’s doing great,” the president said in response to a question about whether he was worried about a decline in the currency.“I want it to be — just seek its own level, which is the fair thing to do,” Trump said, according to Bloomberg.Meanwhile, the premier currency has been trending lower on the impact of trade tariffs and uncertainty around Trump’s policies.<h2 class="st-heading-2">U.S. Dollar Levels</h2>The <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/DXY">U.S. Dollar Index</a> (DXY), which tracks the dollar’s value against a basket of foreign currencies, has been at its lowest level since February 2022, as per data from Koyfin.&nbsp;<figure class="image"><img src="https://news.stocktwits-cdn.com/koyfin_20260128_035531191_png_c909df9e83.webp" alt="DXY drops to lowest level since Feb. 2022" width="2400" height="1240"><figcaption>DXY 5-Year Levels | Source: Koyfin</figcaption></figure>&nbsp;At the time of writing, DXY was down 1.29%, trading around 95.79 levels.According to the Bloomberg report, which cited market observers, the dollar’s weakness comes from risks around Trump’s pressure on the Federal Reserve, concerns over the country’s fiscal outlook and its growing debt load, political polarization, and Trump’s unpredictable policymaking, including threats to take over Greenland.The sudden resurgence of the Japanese yen since last week may have also contributed to the weakness, the report noted.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Trump’s Dollar Control</h2>Trump reportedly implied that he could influence the direction of the U.S. dollar, saying he could make it “go up or go down like a yo-yo,” though he framed such volatility as undesirable.The president compared currency manipulation to artificially inflating employment figures and criticized Asian economies for deliberately weakening their currencies.Pointing to China and Japan, Trump said he frequently clashed with their leaders over what he described as repeated efforts to devalue the yen and the yuan, arguing that such moves made it difficult for U.S. companies to compete.“If you look at China and Japan, I used to fight like hell with them, because they always wanted to devalue their yen. You know that? The yen and the yuan, and they’d always want to devalue it. Trump Reportedly Says Dollar ‘Doing Great’ Even As It Slips To Lowest Level In Nearly Four Years

According to a report from Bloomberg, President Donald Trump said in Iowa on Tuesday that he would like the dollar to seek its own level. 

<ul class="summary-bullets"><li>Brian Armstrong warned that inflation persistently outpacing GDP growth could weaken confidence in the dollar.</li><li>He said rival powers, including China, could seek to challenge U.S. reserve currency dominance over time.</li><li>Armstrong suggested Bitcoin could indirectly strengthen the dollar by discouraging fiscal excess.</li></ul>Coinbase (COIN) CEO Brian Armstrong said on Sunday that Bitcoin (BTC) acts as a “check and balance” on the U.S. dollar rather than an existential rival.&nbsp;“Bitcoin, in an indirect way, is helping the dollar,” Armstrong&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/brian_armstrong/status/2005399228173140204?s=20">said</a> during Rick Rubin’s Tetragrammaton podcast over the weekend. “If there's too much deficit spending or inflation, people will flee to Bitcoin in times of uncertainty.”&nbsp;He argued that Bitcoin introduces discipline into a system where political incentives often make it difficult to rein in spending. By giving people an alternative store of value, Bitcoin forces governments to pay closer attention to fiscal policy.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Bitcoin Brings Market-Based Discipline</h2>Armstrong warned that sustained inflation outpacing GDP growth, beyond the “okay” 2% to 3% range, could erode confidence in the dollar. In a podcast on Sunday, Armstrong said Bitcoin provides market feedback that traditional fiscal systems lack.

This has led investors to scramble for hedges, which is the primary reason for the increase in precious metals prices.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Momentum Spreading Beyond Gold</h2>What makes the current rally unusual is that gold is no longer the sole driver. Silver’s explosive gains have sparked follow-through buying in platinum and palladium, suggesting momentum trading. Gold not leading the rally also weakens the argument that central banks, particularly in emerging markets, are behind the move.Spot silver has been on a record-breaking run this month, gaining nearly 14%. It also hit an all-time high of $64.66 per ounce on Friday.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Is The Dollar An Issue?</h2>Importantly, this surge is unfolding while the U.S. dollar remains broadly stable against other major currencies. That signals the problem isn’t dollar weakness, but a more profound unease with fiat money itself, Brooks added. The decision included three dissents, including two officials who supported no change and Fed Governor Stephen Miran, who preferred a deeper 50-basis-point cut.The rate move was widely expected on Wall Street. The unexpected development was the central bank’s plan to resume balance-sheet expansion by purchasing $40 billion in monthly Treasury bills, marking a return to asset accumulation after months of quantitative tightening.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Investors Position For A ‘Liquidity Wave’</h2>Pompliano said the renewed bond-buying will likely lower yields further and push investors into higher-risk corners of the market. Silver has hit fresh peaks in seven of the last 10 sessions. Daan Struyven, co-head of global commodities research at Goldman Sachs, told Forbes on Thursday that silver prices are likely to remain highly volatile as long as uncertainty over U.S. tariffs persists. Struyven also pointed to a physical squeeze in the London silver market, with inventories low as metal is being shipped to the U.S. amid tariff concerns.He said that many of the factors lifting gold, such as expectations of lower interest rates, also help silver by boosting investor demand. Spot Silver Continues Hitting Fresh Highs – But This Analyst Warns Of Potential Consolidation

Spot silver prices jumped to a record high of $62.9 per ounce on Thursday, a day after the U.S. Federal Reserve announced the much-anticipated 25 basis point rate cut.

Once prices broke major resistance levels in August, momentum traders, long-term investors, and macro funds piled in, turning a valuation gap into a full-fledged breakout.In a Saxo Bank note on Wednesday, Hansen added that eroding confidence in fiat currencies, persistent inflation concerns, and rising fiscal deficits pushed investors toward hard assets. While gold buying by central banks remained strong, silver, a cheaper and more volatile alternative, benefited.&nbsp;At the same time, industrial demand driven by electrification trends, solar power expansion, EV growth, and data-center build-outs increased demand, while years of weak mine supply kept the physical market tight.These pressures also intensified after silver was added to the U.S. critical minerals list, prompting large pre-tariff purchases that drained global inventories. Warehouse stocks in Shanghai fell to decade lows, London lease rates spiked, and demand from India added further strain.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Outlook For 2026</h2>Silver’s outlook in 2026 remains broadly constructive, though risks persist. A slowdown in AI-related investment or a reversal of U.S. tariff plans could ease tightness.
