Bitcoin & Ethereum ETFs are rallying, but regulatory delays, volatility and macro risks raise a key question -- can the rally last?

<ul class="summary-bullets"><li>Published by Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake, the “strawmap” is a roadmap for the Ethereum network through to 2029, and proposes seven protocol forks over the next three years.</li><li>According to Buterin, “one interesting consequence” of the strawmap’s approach is that there is a way to make slots quantum-resistant much sooner than making the finality quantum-resistant.</li><li>This means that even if quantum computers were to emerge as a solid threat earlier than expected, the Ethereum network might get less secure, but it will not stop running.&nbsp;</li></ul>Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin called Ethereum’s roadmap for the next three years “a very important document” in an X post, summarizing the proposal dubbed ‘Strawmap.’Published by Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake, Strawmap outlines seven forks by 2029, with one fork happening roughly every six months. Things may get less secure, but the overall network will keep running.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">The 5 North Stars For Ethereum</h2>The document’s inception was at an Ethereum Foundation workshop in January 2026, according to Drake. He said the name combines “strawmap” and “roadmap,” acknowledging that drafting a proposal to satisfy stakeholders in a decentralized ecosystem is “effectively impossible.”&nbsp;The strawmap is centered around five “north stars” as its technical objectives, according to Drake. The first of which is a "fast L1," which targets short slots and finality in seconds. The second is "gigagas L1," which aims to reach a transaction speed of 1 gigagas per second via zkEVMs and real-time proving.&nbsp;The third target is "teragas L2," looking to hit 1 gigabyte per second of data bandwidth, or 10 million transactions per second. For Bitcoin, this was the first time this year that daily net inflows topped $500 million.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Bitcoin ETF Demand Rebounds After Five-Week Slump</h2>According to data from SoSoValue, Bitcoin spot ETF inflows stood at $560 million so far this week, after over $500 million came in on Tuesday. BlackRock’s&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/IBIT">iShares Bitcoin ETF</a> (IBIT) led the gains, accounting for around $300 million of the total, followed by the&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/GBTC">Grayscale Bitcoin Trust</a> (GBTC) at around $100 million.On Stocktwits, retail sentiment around IBIT remained in ‘bullish’ territory over the past day, while retail sentiment around GBTC continued to trend in the ‘bullish’ zone. Both funds were down over 1% each in after-hours trade as Bitcoin pared its gains.<a href="https://stocktwits.com/coins/bitcoin">Bitcoin’s price</a> was trading at around $68,000 on Thursday morning, down after crossing the $69,000 on Wednesday, but still up 4.1% in the last 24 hours. The&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/FETH">Fidelity Ethereum Fund</a> (FETH) led gains with over $60 million of capital coming in, followed by the&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/ETHE">Grayscale Ethereum Fund</a> (ETHE) clocking around $34 million in daily net inflows.&nbsp;Retail sentiment on Stocktwits around FETH remained in ‘bearish’ territory with chatter at ‘high’ levels over the past day. Retail sentiment around ETHE, however, improved to ‘bullish’ from ‘neutral’ territory over the past day but saw ‘low’ levels of chatter.&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/coins/ethereum">Ethereum’s price</a> climbed as high as $2,100, paring gains and holding ground above $2,000, still up by 7.7% in the last 24 hours and outperforming Bitcoin. Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs are on track for their first week of net inflows after five straight weeks of outflows – the longest on record.

The distribution will be paid on Tuesday to investors who held shares as of the record date on January 5, according to Grayscale.According to&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://sosovalue.com/assets/etf/us-eth-spot">data</a> on SoSoValue, ETHE is the only Ethereum fund with cumulative net inflow in the red, amounting to nearly $5 billion. Even on Monday, the fund lagged behind its peers with net inflow of $1.32 million while&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/ETHA">BlackRock’s ETHA</a> clocked $102 million and&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/FETH">Fedelity’s FETH</a> saw $21 million.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Ethereum Price On The Rise</h2>The fund rose 3.6% in regular trading but was edging 0.91% lower in after-hours trading despite Ethereum’s price rising. On Stockwits, retail sentiment around Grayscale’s ETF improved to ‘neutral’ from ‘bearish’ over the past day as chatter also ticked higher to ‘normal’ from ‘low’ levels.Meanwhile,&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/coins/ethereum">Ethereum’s price</a> rose 1.8% in the last 24 hours to over $3,200. The leading altcoin remains more than 35% below its record of nearly $5,000 seen in August last year, according to CoinGecko data. On Stocktwits, retail sentiment around ETH trended in ‘bullish’ territory over the past day as chatter rose to ‘high’ from ‘normal’ levels.<h2 class="st-heading-2">How the ETHE Distribution Works</h2>The distribution reflects staking rewards earned by the fund and then sold, with the cash proceeds being returned to shareholders. The structure is similar to income-style distributions seen in traditional ETFs, but with a yield component tied to Ethereum’s proof-of-stake mechanism.Grayscale first activated staking for its Ethereum products in October last year. Grayscale Ethereum Trust announced that it would distribute staking-related cash proceeds to shareholders for the first time on Tuesday.
