MSTR’s Michael Saylor Challenges Chamath Palihapitiya’s AI Thesis – Why Quantum Computing Could Break Everything, Not Just Bitcoin

Robinhood Ventures Fund priced its initial public offering at $25 per share, but the fund opened at $22 and hit a low of $21 before closing the day at $21.42. Retail sentiment around the company on Stocktwits remained in ‘bearish’ territory over the past day.<h2 class="st-heading-2">IPO Exits Could Deliver Investor Windfalls</h2>According to RVI’s prospectus, it is “not required to and does not currently intend to pay dividends” on its holdings to shareholders. Simply put, closed-end funds like RVI generally do not distribute proceeds from underlying holdings, such as gains from a potential Databricks IPO, to shareholders automatically. Instead, the gains are added to the fund's net asset value (NAV).&nbsp;However, Peyronel suggested that it may not always be the case. According to her, there is a possibility of proceeds coming to shareholders, potentially creating a windfall if high-profile private companies in the portfolio achieve successful public listings.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Investors Watch Databricks And Stripe Exposure</h2>Robinhood Ventures I Fund currently holds positions in Airwallex, Boom, Databricks, Mercor, Oura, Ramp, and Revolut – all past the status of ‘unicorn’ startups, except for Boom. Peyronel added that the firm is&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/robinhood-ventures-fund-debuts-on-nyse-stripe-investment-to-be-finalized/cZdLdY1RIEz">“days” away</a> from closing its $14.6 million investment in Stripe and is negotiating stakes in&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/robinhood-ventures-eyes-openai-other-highly-valued-companies-for-fund/cZdLBqORI4E">“highly valued” companies</a> like OpenAI.Some retail investors on Stocktwits said their primary reason for investing in RVI was exposure to Databricks. We've got the support of the administration. We've got a Bitcoin president. We've got 12 Cabinet members that are pro digital assets and pro innovation,” he said listing out the reasons.<h2 class="st-heading-2">MSTR’s Bitcoin Has Gotten Expensive</h2>Strategy’s average acquisition price for its Bitcoin currently stands at around 76,000, considerable higher than Bitcoin’s current trading range under the $70,000 mark.&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/coins/bitcoin">Bitcoin’s price</a> was trading at around $67,700 on Tuesday night, down around 1% in the last 24 hours.&nbsp;However, according to Saylor, as he’s reiterated multiple times before, this is not a concern for Strategy because it bought most of its Bitcoin with equity, not debt. “So if we did buy the Bitcoin a little bit higher than the current level, we sold equity that it was a massive premium to the Bitcoin at the time that we bought it,” he explained. “So the company's balance sheets of fortress were fairly indestructible.”Saylor added that even if Strategy cannot add Bitcoin every week, the company intends to continue accumulating at least once per quarter. The firm cited weaker cryptocurrency prices and a compression in Strategy’s premium relative to its Bitcoin holdings. It expects Strategy to report an unrealized loss in Q4, driven by Bitcoin’s decline during the period.&nbsp;In January, Strategy was&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.reuters.com/business/bitcoin-hoarder-strategy-reveals-1744-billion-unrealized-loss-fourth-quarter-2026-01-05/">reportedly</a> sitting on an unrealized loss of $17.44 billion in the fourth quarter due to Bitcoin’s slump, which led to the value of the company’s stockpile taking a hit. For the year 2025, the company reported a $5.40 billion unrealized loss on digital assets. At the time, it also slashed its earnings forecast for 2025, citing a weak run in bitcoin.While Canaccord continues to view Strategy as a long-term store-of-value vehicle, it noted that Bitcoin has increasingly traded like a risk asset over the past year.
