The bank has maintained its downside case at $3,700 per ounce, the report read.UBS said that the key macro drivers, including further Federal Reserve rate cuts, lower real yields, and geopolitical tension, should continue to support demand. UBS Hikes Gold Price Forecast Again, Expects $4,900 Peak By Mid-2026: Report 

UBS lifted its upside target to $4,900 from $4,700, saying the factors behind this year’s rally should continue into 2026, according to a report by investing.com.

Gold prices were headed for their best monthly gain in 16 years on growing concerns over a U.S. government shutdown and optimism surrounding a potential rate cut by the U.S. Federal Reserve.Spot gold prices rose 1% to $3,871.72 per ounce, another fresh record. Retail sentiment on Stocktwits about <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/GLD">SPDR Gold Shares ETF</a> (GLD) was in the ‘bullish’ territory at the time of writing.Gold’s rally this week has been driven by growing concerns that the U.S. government will shut down by Wednesday unless Congress approves a temporary funding bill. The yellow metal has gained over 12% this month, on track for the most significant gains since November 2009."I think we're headed to a shutdown because the Democrats won't do the right thing," Vice President JD Vance told reporters after a meeting at the White House with senior members of Congress. The Democrats are pushing to keep healthcare subsidies for low and middle-income households in the stopgap funding measure.“While gold appears overbought, the supportive backdrop is likely to limit any correction,” IG Bank analyst Tony Sycamore said, noting the importance of increased safe-haven demand driven by rising geopolitical tensions in Europe, concerns over the Fed’s independence, and robust buying from central banks and private investors.The shutdown could also delay the crucial jobs data due later this week. An analyst said that while gold appears overbought, the supportive backdrop is likely to limit any correction.

Trump Announces ‘Gold Will Not Be Tariffed’ – Bullion Prices Remain Down

The White House is reportedly planning to issue an executive order to clear up any confusion around tariffs on gold bars after futures linked to the precious metal hit a record high on Friday.“The White House intends to issue an executive order in the near future clarifying misinformation about the tariffing of gold bars and other specialty products,” a White House official&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.ft.com/content/c2868087-9951-4f04-818f-5082437f603a">told</a> the Financial Times.The update comes after the publication cited&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.ft.com/content/78be1315-608d-43c6-b8e7-80b9e18c5ce7">documents</a> on Thursday from the Customs and Border Protection agency, which said&nbsp;one-kilo and 100-ounce gold bars should be classified under a customs code subject to levies. Gold futures rose to a record on Wednesday as the uncertainty over the outcome of the 2024 presidential election continues.&nbsp;The precious metal, however, came under some selling pressure in Thursday’s session amid the release of inflation data that casts a cloud on aggressive rate cuts by the Federal Reserve.Notwithstanding the pullback, gold futures have soared nearly 35% for the year-to-date period, outperforming the 23% gain for the SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust ($SPY), an exchange-traded fund that tracks the performance of the S&amp;P 500 Index.What’s Driving Gold RallyThe imminent U.S. election is seen as a key risk event that is driving the safe-haven gold higher. Nationwide opinion polls have all been unanimous in projecting a close election, with the lead in most cases coming within the margin of error of the survey.&nbsp;The&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://today.yougov.com/politics/articles/50839-harris-small-lead-over-trump-trust-in-elections-halloween-october-26-29-2024-economist-yougov-poll">results</a> of the Economist/YouGov survey released Wednesday showed Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of her rival Donald Trump by a point among registered voters and by two points among likely voters. This is well within the survey’s margin of error of +/- 3.4% for registered voters.Saxo Bank Head Of Commodity Strategy Ole Hansen&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.home.saxo/content/articles/commodities/will-the-us-election-result-spark-a-gold-correction-30102024">said&nbsp;</a>in a post on Wednesday that rate cuts by the Fed and other central banks are reducing the cost of holding non-interest-bearing assets like gold and silver.“The latest strength is increasingly being seen as a hedge against a potential ‘Red Sweep’ at the 5 November US election, where one political party, in this case, the Republicans, controls both the White House and Congress,” the strategist said.This has pushed up bond yields amid concerns about excessive government spending, likely pushing up the debt-to-GDP ratio higher, and potential reignition of inflationary pressure through tariffs on imports, Hansen said.Following Thursday’s hotter-than-expected inflation data,&nbsp; gold bull and economist Peter Schiff&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/PeterSchiff/status/1851981708431630573">said</a> instead of selling gold in the wake of the data, investors should be buying it. “Inflation will get a lot hotter than this but the Fed will not take action to fight it. The yellow metal had pulled back sharply ahead of the Nov. 8, 2016 election and barring a sharp spike a day after the election, it declined through mid-Dec. 2016.In 2017, gold saw intermittent rallies and pullbacks. Gold futures peaked in early June before pulling back.
