Ripple is the catchall name for the cryptocurrency platform, the transactional protocol for which is actually XRP, in the same fashion as Ethereum is the name for the platform that facilitates trades in Ether. Like other cryptocurrencies, Ripple is built atop the idea of a distributed ledger network which requires various parties to participate in validating transactions, rather than any singular centralized authority. That facilitates transactions all over the world, and transfer fees are far cheaper than the likes of bitcoin. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XRP transfers are effectively immediate, requiring no typical confirmation time.  Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. Ethereum is a global, open-source platform for decentralized applications. In other words, it is a decentralized blockchain platform that enables developers to build and deploy smart contracts and applications without central authority control. Unlike Bitcoin, which primarily functions as digital currency, Ethereum operates as a programmable global computer where developers can create any type of decentralized service.   The platform hosts over $14 billion in DeFi applications with hundreds of thousands of active users across financial protocols, NFT marketplaces, and gaming platforms. Its transition to Proof of Stake in September 2022 reduced energy consumption by over 99%, addressing environmental concerns while strengthening network security.  The network operates through thousands of independent validator nodes that process transactions and execute smart contracts on the Ethereum Virtual Machine. Smart contracts are self-executing programs written in Solidity that automatically carry out agreements when conditions are met, eliminating intermediaries like banks or brokers.   Validators stake ETH as collateral to propose and validate blocks, earning rewards for honest participation while facing penalties for malicious behavior. The EIP-1559 upgrade introduced a dynamic base fee mechanism that burns ETH with each transaction, creating deflationary pressure during high network activity when more ETH is burned than issued to validators.  Vitalik Buterin proposed Ethereum in 2013, but seven co-founders helped build it, including Gavin Wood who created Solidity and the EVM technical specification, and Joseph Lubin who founded ConsenSys. The project launched in July 2015 after raising over $18 million through crowdfunding, quickly becoming the largest blockchain developer community. Major milestones include the 2020 Beacon Chain launch, the 2021 London hard fork implementing fee burning, and the 2022 Merge to Proof of Stake.   Ether (ETH) serves multiple functions: paying transaction fees (gas), staking to secure the network and earn 3-5% annual yields, serving as collateral in DeFi protocols, and purchasing NFTs and digital assets. The asset is increasingly adopted by traditional institutions, with publicly traded companies adding ETH to corporate treasuries to generate staking yields while maintaining blockchain exposure, and in 2024, the SEC approved spot Ethereum ETFs, allowing traditional investors to gain exposure through conventional brokerage accounts.  Ethereum's roadmap focuses on dramatically increasing transaction capacity to over 100,000 per second, reducing confirmation times, and enhancing decentralization while maintaining security against future threats like quantum computing.

Goldman began coverage of Stellantis with a ‘Neutral’ rating and a $10 price target, implying a 1.3% upside from the last close. The firm said Stellantis shares its valuation appeal, identifying the most undervalued areas of the European auto industry.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Goldman Flags Market Pressure&nbsp;</h2>Goldman said European automakers face growing pressure as Chinese manufacturers expand globally and battery electric vehicle momentum accelerates. The firm added that European Union tariffs, currency swings, and tightening emissions rules are adding further strain. Goldman noted that BMW, Mercedes, Volkswagen and Renault now trade at negative industrial stub valuations, which it called “premature,” and said the premium segment remains the most undervalued part of the market.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Automakers Goldman Sees As Attractive Value Opportunities</h2>Goldman highlighted several automakers that it believes offer meaningful upside. The company initiated BMW with a ‘Buy’ rating and a 112 euro price target, implying a 32% upside. Mercedes-Benz was also initiated with a ‘Buy’ rating and a 74 euro price target, representing a 30% upside. Goldman said it likes both BMW and Mercedes-Benz for their “healthy” balance sheets and “shareholder-friendly” capital allocation frameworks.The bank initiated Ferrari with a ‘Buy’ rating and a $454 price target, giving the stock a 35% upside. Goldman said Ferrari’s higher-priced Special Series volumes support stronger selling prices and growth.Goldman also said Renault offers the same “attractive value” seen across premium automakers. The firm began coverage with a ‘Neutral’ rating and a 36-euro price target, implying a 5% upside.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Automakers Goldman Views More Cautiously</h2>Goldman initiated coverage of Volkswagen with a ‘Neutral’ rating and a 106-euro price target, giving it a 12% upside. Porsche AG was also initiated at a ‘Neutral’ rating with a 46 euro price target, representing a 29% upside.Aston Martin Lagonda received a ‘Neutral’ rating and a 61-pound price target, which reflects a 1% downside. The bank’s research arm highlighted structural concerns over Aston Martin’s balance sheet.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Stocktwits Traders Back Stellantis, BMW, Renault&nbsp;</h2>On Stocktwits, automakers including Stellantis, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Renault all saw ‘bullish’ sentiment, though message volume was ‘high’ for Stellantis, ‘normal’ for BMW and Renault, and ‘low’ for Mercedes-Benz.Porsche AG and Aston Martin Lagonda each recorded ‘neutral’ sentiment, with Porsche seeing ‘low’ message volume while Aston Martin registered ‘normal’ activity. Among the outliers, Ferrari drew ‘bearish’ sentiment on ‘low’ message volume, while Volkswagen saw ‘extremely bearish’ sentiment, also amid ‘low’ message volume.So far this year, performance across U.S.-listed European automakers has been mixed.&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/STLA">Stellantis</a> is down 19%, Renault is down 15%, Ferrari is down 8%, and Aston Martin Lagonda is down 38%. Chinese EV major BYD widened its European lead over Tesla last month, selling more than three times as many cars as the previous year to outpace the U.S. rival for the second consecutive month.&nbsp;BYD’s registrations jumped 201% in August, for a 1.3% market share across the EU, against Tesla’s 1.2% after its sales slumped 36.6%, Reuters&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/byd-outsells-tesla-eu-second-month-stellantis-returns-sales-growth-2025-09-25/">reported</a>, citing data from the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA).It was a mixed month for Europe’s traditional automakers. Stellantis returned to growth for the first time since early 2024, with sales up 2.2% in August. Volkswagen registrations rose 4.8% and Renault gained 7.8%. Overall, car sales across the EU increased 5.3%.Buyers kept moving towards electrified vehicles, with battery-electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid cars accounting for more than 62% of registrations, compared with just under 53% a year earlier.Tesla’s challenges ran deeper than the EU average. Data from Germany’s Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) showed its&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/tesla-sales-fall-germany-european-markets-continue-to-decline/chwTUgeRd8Z">sales in the country dropped 39% in August</a> to 1,441 units, even as overall EV sales there jumped 46%.&nbsp;According to National Auto Association data, Tesla also lost ground in France, where sales fell 47% to 1,331 units, and in Belgium, which saw a 61% decline to 585. In Denmark, registrations dropped 42% to 473. So far this year, Tesla sales have declined by 39% in France, 56% in Belgium, and 54% in Denmark.One bright spot was Norway, where Tesla sold 3,014 cars in August, up 21% from last year. BYD Widens Lead Over Tesla In Europe As Sales Triple; Stellantis Returns To Growth After Year-Long Slump

Overall car registrations in the EU rose 5.3% as buyers continued shifting toward electrified vehicles, which made up more than 62% of the market.

Global automakers are reportedly relying more on Chinese technology to fast-track electric vehicles, with Ford, Toyota, Renault and Volkswagen joining Audi in adopting Chinese EV platforms, software and powertrains to cut costs and shorten timelines.Audi’s turning point came in 2021, when its executives were stunned by the Zeekr 001, a long-range EV with European styling. “The Zeekr 001 back then shocked quite everyone,” said Stefan Poetzl, president of SAIC Audi Sales and Marketing, according to a Reuters&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/china-inside-how-chinese-ev-tech-is-reshaping-global-auto-design-2025-09-11/">report</a>.&nbsp;In response, Audi partnered with SAIC to develop the Audi E5 Sportback, built in just 18 months with Chinese batteries, electric drive systems, infotainment and advanced driver assistance. The $33,000 model will be delivered to Chinese buyers this month.Other global players are pursuing similar strategies. Toyota is co-developing China-dedicated models with Guangzhou-based GAC, while Volkswagen has expanded plans with Xpeng that cover both EV and fuel models.&nbsp;Renault built the Dacia Spring on a Dongfeng platform and is apparently developing a new electric Twingo in Shanghai with support from Launch Design. Ford is actively seeking a Chinese partner, with CEO Jim Farley praising local models such as Xiaomi’s SU7 sedan.Stellantis has already taken the step of licensing technology: CEO Zhu Jiangming said its partner Leapmotor will sell EVs overseas and is in talks with other brands to license its platform.&nbsp;Abu Dhabi-based CYVN Holdings, an investor in Nio, has also reportedly built a premium EV using Nio’s chassis and software, with plans to sell under the McLaren brand.Analysts say the model resembles the “Intel Inside” campaign of the 1990s, where Chinese EV makers package chassis, batteries and software into ready-made kits for foreign manufacturers.&nbsp;The approach saves billions in R&amp;D and years of development, while providing Chinese companies with valuable licensing revenue amid a bruising domestic price war and mounting trade tensions abroad.“It is a very smart, win-win solution,” said Will Wang, general manager of Shanghai-based consultancy Autodatas. Marco Santino of Oliver Wyman added that the “firepower” of China’s fierce EV competition allows legacy carmakers to bring higher-quality products to market more quickly.But some warn of long-term risks.
