Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. DexCom, a manufacturer of glucose monitoring systems for diabetes management, witnessed a 19% rise in the number of watchers on Stocktwits over the last week. The renewed interest in the stock came after the firm surprisingly trimmed its full-year sales forecast, a move that immediately pushed its shares down by 40%.The firm now anticipates full-year revenue of $4.00-$4.05 billion versus an earlier guidance of $4.20-$4.35 billion. Analysts did not take the significant revision lightly and raised concerns during the earnings call. DexCom management cited factors like sales force disruption and a decline in market share as some of the primary reasons that led to the guidance trim.Meanwhile, the company reported a 15% rise in its second quarter revenue at $1 billion while net income rose 24%YoY to $143.50 million. Volume growth in conjunction with strong new customer additions continued to be the primary driver of revenue growth.The firm’s sensor segment witnessed a 22% YoY rise in revenue at $947 million while hardware revenue declined 39% to $57.30 million.Kevin Sayer, Dexcom’s chairman, president and CEO stated that the firm’s execution did not meet its high standards. The firm cited a decline in new customers, lower revenue per patient and higher-than-expected rebates as reasons for its sales guidance cut.Meanwhile, JPMorgan downgraded the stock to ‘Neutral’ from ‘Overweight’ while reducing the price target to $75 from $145.
