It’s the time of the year to take stock of which among the global markets delivered superior returns.&nbsp;U.S. President Donald Trump may have done the chest-thumping for ushering in the golden era of the stock market after he took office for a second time in January. Ironically, Trump upset the markets' rhythm, which had been coming off a robust performance in late 2024, by announcing sweeping tariffs early in the year. The market’s resilience won in the end.&nbsp;While outperforming China’s main stock market gauge, the S&amp;P 500 Index, a measure of the broader U.S. market performance, trailed many other major markets.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">And Crown Goes To….</h2>The best-performing stock market is in a country on the other side of the world. South Korea’s Kospi topped the Class of 2025, and it is a no-brainer as the country is home to some of the biggest tech names, including Samsung, memory chipmaker SK Hynix, and battery maker LG Electronics.The Kospi suffered a setback in December of 2024 when the then-President Yoon Suk Yeol’s sudden declaration of martial law and remained subdued during the first half of the year due to the Trump tariff threat. The market lifted off in the second half, inspired by President Lee Jae Myung’s pro-market agenda and a global AI boom.<h2 class="st-heading-2">How S&amp;P 500 Fared Versus Rest Of Global Markets</h2>The S&amp;P 500 Index fell in the middle of the spectrum among the major global markets in terms of the year’s performance. The&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/SPY">SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF (SPY)</a>, an exchange-traded fund that tracks the S&amp;P 500 Index, has gained 18.6% and trades just shy of its all-time closing high.<img src="https://news.stocktwits-cdn.com/Global_Stock_Market_Performance_In_2025_png_e0d78f46cf.webp" alt="Global Stock Market Performance In 2025.png">*based on Yahoo Finance data**Returns&nbsp;until Dec. 30 for US, American, and French markets&nbsp;&nbsp;In the U.S., tech optimism ran high among investors as accelerating artificial intelligence (AI)–related spending translated into tangible revenue growth, higher infrastructure utilization, and improving earnings visibility. Corporate profit growth remained strong, helping to offset fears concerning a potential economic slowdown. FactSet estimates that the cumulative profit of S&amp;P 500 companies is set to increase by 8.3% year over year (YoY) in the fourth quarter, marking the 10th consecutive year of earnings growth.The Federal Reserve, probably buckling under political pressure, lowered the Fed funds rate by 25 basis points each, thrice. With Trump promising to install a dovish Fed Chair, replacing incumbent Jerome Powell when his current term as chief expires in May 2026, the market has begun baking in additional cuts.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Brazil Takes Silver</h2>Despite the year’s stellar run, the key market gauge, the Bovespa, is down on a five-year basis. In 2025, the stock defied a hawkish central bank that fought hard to bring inflation below the 5% central bank target, a Barron’s&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.barrons.com/articles/brazil-stock-market-bull-run-president-election-bonds-415b43d1">report</a> stated. The economic growth, however, remained resilient.“What’s driving the bull run this year is the prospect for change in 2026,” said Malcolm Dorson, head of emerging markets strategy at Global X ETFs. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is expected to retire after the elections in&nbsp;October 2026, given the not-so-robust health of the octogenarian.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Hong Kong, Japan Other Standout Asian Markets</h2>Hong Kong’s Hang Seng and Japan's Nikkei 225 were among the best-performing Asian markets, gaining about 28% and 27%, respectively. But one lesser-known name belonging to the less glamorous software space beat most of these showstealers fair and square. It hit bottom in the middle of 2022 and has been recovering since then.For the year-to-date (YTD) period, JFrog’s stock has returned nearly 122%, with one more session to go. At the start of the year, the company signed an expanded collaboration agreement with Amazon’s AWS to allow enterprise customers to migrate workloads to AWS swiftly.&nbsp;The company also announced two agreements with Nvidia: general availability of its integration with Nvidia NIM microservices, part of the latter’s AI Enterprise software platform, and integration of its foundational DevSecOps tools with the Nvidia Enterprise AI Factory validated design.Revenue for the last reported quarter rose 26% year over year (YoY) to $136.9 million, and the non-GAAP gross margin was a commendable 83.9%. At the end of the quarter, the remaining performance obligations, which combine deferred revenue and revenue backlog, stood at a solid $508 million. The one-year change in the follower count for the stock on Stocktwits is 141%. After peaking at 83% in the second quarter of 2023, year-over-year sales growth either slowed or turned negative. If the estimate proves accurate, the company is on track to report annual deliveries of 1.641 million, down 8.3% from 1.79 million in 2024. While the consensus view shared by Tesla shows that the company might return to growth in 2026, which, though, is likely to be anemic (6.7%), Deepwater Asset Management’s Gene Munster predicts a big miss. In his 2026 predictions, the fund manager said he expects 2026 sales to be flat to up 5% as opposed to Wall Street’s consensus forecast for 16% delivery growth.If the auto business continues to be weak, one of the worst hit could be Musk himself. His $1 trillion pay package, which the Delaware Supreme Court recently cleared, is predicated on the company’s market cap hitting $8.5 trillion, while also meeting the following operational performance:-achieving up to $400 billion in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA)-delivering 20 million cars cumulatively-selling 1 million robots-selling 10 million FSD subscriptions- operating 1 million robotaxis<h2 class="st-heading-2">Non-Autos To Drive Investment Case?</h2>Munster, though downbeat on the core auto business, says his investment case doesn’t change, and it is still predicated on full self-driving software, robotaxis, and Optimusm humanoid robots. He also opined that robotaxis without a safety driver will likely get regulatory clearance by the end of the year.&nbsp;Morgan Stanley’s Andrew Percoco, who downgraded Tesla to ‘Equal-Weight’ from ‘Overweight’ earlier this month, sees a challenging catalyst path over the next 12 months, presenting downside risk to consensus estimates. At the same time, the analyst believes the positive catalysts for its non-auto business are already reflected in the stock price. Emphasizing the importance of the auto business, the analyst said:<blockquote>“While it is well understood that Tesla is more than an auto manufacturer, we believe it will be increasingly challenging to support meaningful upside to Tesla shares barring an improvement, or at least stabilization, within its auto business, which is a key source of funding for its non-auto businesses.”</blockquote>Tesla bull Daniel Ives, however, sees 2026 as a “monster year” for Tesla as the autonomous and robotics chapter begins.&nbsp;<blockquote>“We expect in early 2026 an easing of the federal framework for autonomous vehicles, with more power going to the federal regulators, with states having less authority on the autonomous rules framework likely under an Executive Order.”</blockquote>The analyst expects Tesla to reach a $2 trillion market capitalization by 2026, with a bull-case scenario pointing to as much as $3 trillion by year-end.<h2 class="st-heading-2">What Retail Traders &amp; Analysts Feel About TSLA</h2>Retail sentiment toward the Tesla stock was ‘bearish’ as of early Tuesday, tempering from the bullish mood seen three months ago, when it began gathering some momentum.<figure class="image"><img style="aspect-ratio:720/443;" src="https://news.stocktwits-cdn.com/Screenshot_2025_12_30_at_5_24_45_AM_png_773bc87677.webp" alt="Screenshot 2025-12-30 at 5.24.45 AM.png" width="720" height="443"></figure>&nbsp;According to Koyfin, the average analyst price target for Tesla’s stock is $399.15, implying more than 13% downside from current levels. AppLovin’s Monster Rally Has Investors Hooked — Now Comes The Hard Part

AppLovin has delivered standout revenue growth and industry-leading margins, but its elevated valuation leaves little room for missteps as growth inevitably moderates.

After a so-so performance for much of the year, the&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/VNDA">Vanda stock</a> rally kicked off in the middle of November and has been going strong ever since.&nbsp;Between Nov. 14 and Friday’s trading session, the stock has gained about 62%, wiping out the year's losses.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Binary Event Beckons</h2>More than 13 years after licensing NK-1R from Lilly (LLY) for a $1 million upfront payment—and over a year after the FDA rejected its application in gastroparesis—Vanda is once again knocking on the regulator’s door, this time seeking approval for motion sickness. Vand has since rechristened the drug candidate as tradipitant.&nbsp;Last September, the drug regulator issued a Complete Response Letter (CRL) to the new drug application (NDA) for tradipitant for treating symptoms of gastroparesis. A CRL is a letter stating that the agency will not approve a regulatory application in its current form.Reacting to the decision, Vanda said:<blockquote>“The CRL was conclusory in nature, generally disregarded the evidence provided and instead suggested that Vanda conduct additional studies with a design and duration inconsistent with the advice of key experts in the field and not appropriate based on the scientific understanding and natural course of the disorder.”</blockquote>Vanda has looked past the disappointment and is hoping for good news. Providing a regulatory update on tradipitant as a preventive treatment for motion sickness-induced vomiting in late November, Vanda stated that the Prescription Drug User Fee Act (PDUFA) target date of Dec. 30 for completion of the review remained unchanged. It also confirmed that the FDA recently issued comments on the proposed labeling and that labeling discussions have formally commenced. If approved, Vanda will have the distinction of delivering the first new pharmacologic treatment for motion sickness in over four decades.According to Mordor Intelligence, the total addressable opportunity for motion sickness is around $670 million in 2025. This is expected to grow at a 3.1% compounded annual growth rate (CAGR), reaching $781 million by 2030.Tradipitant earlier produced positive results in a study that evaluated it as a treatment option for the prevention of nausea and vomiting induced by GLP-1 receptor agonist Wegovy in overweight and obese adults.In other recent developments, Vanda announced in early December that the FDA had lifted the partial clinical hold on the tradipitant protocol, which had limited the doses that could be administered. This decision allows Vanda to extend clinical studies of tradipitant in motion sickness.In mid-December, the company said it had submitted a Biologics License Application (BLA) for imsidolimab to treat generalized pustular psoriasis (GPP). It expects to end the year with $260 million to $290 million in cash.&nbsp;Founded in 2003, Vanda focuses on new technologies, including genetics and genomics, for drug discovery, clinical trials, and commercial positioning. The company sells Hetlioz as a treatment for sleep-wake disorder, Fanapt, an antipsychotic medication, and Ponvory for relapsing multiple sclerosis. Vanda generates net product sales of $158.9 million for the first nine months of 2025, marking 9% year-over-year (YoY) growth.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Upcoming Catalysts</h2>Apart from the imminent FDA decision, the company has a slew of catalysts that can propel the stock higher if they pan out favorably. Riley said Vanda is a commercial-stage turnaround story trading at a "historic discount,” the Fly reported. These companies have been riding the surging demand for data center infrastructure from hyperscalers and other AI players.Iren and Nebius belong to a class of companies called neoclouds, which are specialized cloud providers that offer a range of services, including GPUs-as-a-service (GPUaaS), fast networking, and optimized software.<h2 class="st-heading-2">IREN Vs Nebius: How Shares Stacked Up</h2>Sydney, Australia-based IREN, founded in 2018 by siblings Daniel and Will Roberts, has seen its shares surge by over 300% this year. Nebius was not far behind with a gain of 225%. It is often considered a provider of “bare-metal, contract-based GPU capacity, and is therefore preferred by startups and cloud providers.&nbsp;On the other hand, Nebius, a spin-off of the publicly traded Yandex Group, the Dutch holding company of the Russian Internet giant Yandex, provides a full-stack cloud platform. About 78% of the nine analysts covering <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/NBIS">Nebius stock</a> have buy-equivalent ratings. The average analyst price target for IREN stock ($151.50) suggests roughly 73% upside potential.Retail traders, however, are downbeat. But growth beyond that is uncertain, they said.Following Nebius’ September quarter results, Citizens JMP analysts initiated coverage of the stock with an ‘Outperform’ rating and a $175 price target. Despite the high-profile launch of its Super Intelligence division and aggressive poaching of elite artificial intelligence (AI) talent, Meta failed to assuage investor doubts over the payoff from its heavy AI spending. Market chatter about the company padding its financials by extending the shelf life of its data center assets exacerbated the weakness.Even though&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/META">Meta’s stock</a> is up nearly 13%&nbsp;this year, it trails five of its Magnificent Seven peers—outperforming only Amazon (AMZN) and Apple (AAPL). The first quarter saw a deceleration in the year-over-year (YoY) revenue growth, but since then, the topline has grown at an accelerated rate. After disclosing the quarterly results, the stock shed a whopping 11% in a single session. According to its website, Meta operates 30 data centers, including one each in Ireland and Denmark.Heavy investment in data centers is critical to staying competitive in the artificial intelligence race, particularly for training large language models, as Meta pursues its longer-term goal of achieving artificial general intelligence (AGI). On Stockwits, retail sentiment toward the stock was ‘bearish’ as of early Friday.
